Presdigitation is a great spell. Ghost Sound is wonderful for rogues. Mage Hand is a must-have.
An illusion is incredibly versatile, and can do a lot if you have the imagination for it. From walls to diversions to entertainment on the streets, anything you can think of can be done, even with the most basic of illusions (Silent Image). I would recommend one with sound, but you can always emulate that with Ghost Sound (which can create quite a lot of volume).
Alter Self is indeed wonderful, but it is 2nd level. Change Self is not worth it, IMHO, since it doesn't actually change you, only your appearance (whereas Alter Self actually transmutes you).
Grease is a classic funny. For a rogue, you might even cast it near you and fight in it, with your high reflex saves. Other than that, you can grease a rope to elude capture, weapon handles to elude sucking chest wounds, a bard on stage (if he's giving you bad press
).
Jump is a great spell (+30!), but I would get a ring or perhaps some scrolls. The same applies to Expeditious Retreat.
Spider Climb is great for rogues. Alternatively, get Animate Rope, which you can command to tie itself to something (for climbing purposes) or entangle foes.
Obscuring Mist is a good escape spell, but is unfortunately centered on you.
Cause Fear is fun for combat, IMO. There's nothing like a big weak-minded monster running away from a halfling.
Depends on how high your spell DCs go, though.
Color Spray is very useful for rogues in combat, but I wouldn't take it--take fun stuff instead.
For the ultimate in defense, take Shield. Lasts you a combat, and really helps.
Alternatively, you can research your own spells if you have any ideas. Good luck and have fun!
