First time Cleric... suggetions?

The important part is to understand that Leaders are more than Healers. Yes, you can heal, yes, it's important to bring your teammates back up when they are down, but there is one problem with a total focus on healing:

Either the fight is easy, then in-combat healing isn't necessary because the fight is over before anyone took serious damage. Or, the party is outmatched, in which case you probably take a lot of damage very quickly, and all you can do is bring one ally back up so that you can all retreat.

As a leader, it is often better to be active immediately, rather than wait until your allies are damage. Provide attack and defense bonuses left and right. Pick powers that allow bonus actions (a strength of the Warlord rather than the Cleric). Very important, make your your teammates tell you if they want to break out a big gun (i.e. a daily power) so that you can make sure they'll get an attack boost from you.

Defense boosts aren't bad either: If you can prevent an ally from taking damage, you don't need to heal him later!

Even as a Leader you should contribute to the total damage your party dishes out. This can be done either by dealing good damage yourself, or by using attack buffs to make your big damage dealers (the strikers) even better. Try out different things and see what is best.

Thanks for all the advice and tips. We played our first round last night and my character seemed to work pretty well. I'm going to ask the DM if he will let me tweak my character and change a few powers but over all our group worked well. Thanks again.
