First Post
Today was my first time GMing 4th edition. I ran the first part of Keep on the Shadowfell (set in the Wizard's Reach region of Aglarond), and I had a blast.

The party started out with 3 paladins and a druid. After the second fight, one of the players switched to a cleric (turns out 3 paladins aren't the best option). They finally got through Irontooth after a long, drawn out battle. Everyone agreed the cleric was the most valuable party member, and everyone would have died several times over without him. They really could have used a striker of some sort, but the Tiefling druid ended up doing a respectable amount of damage.

p.s. Kobold shifting and skirmishers can be rather nasty.

Welcome to DM-ing 4e, and grats ;)

At this point I have run just over 30 campaign games as well as a number of other one-offs, and weird things here and there for 4e and I am really into it. It's good to see you all had fun.

What edition/game did you play before 4e and what stuck out at you as the 'coolest' thing about 4e in that game - in other words, what about the system do you think helped in having 'a blast'?

That is one of, IMO, the great things about 4e. The tactical fun for the DM... combats become less about stat superiority and more about creatively using the monsters powers/roles together.

YMMV of course.

That's awesome! Here is to many more fun events!

I have NO idea how many 4e games I've run. Very many, at least. I do wish that I had kept a count.

Welcome to the Club!!

I've been running 4e since before it came out - using the preview rules developed by the secret reverse engineers here at ENWORLD...

We try to game once a week for a two hour session and, I'm guessing, we get 40 sessions in a year. So by one and three quarters, equals around 70 games - a very rough estimate.

EDIT: My DMG2 arrived today, my early Christmas present to myself, and it is waiting, still in its wrapping, at home on my coffee table. Yey... Happy 4e DMing pips...

Glad you had a blast. :)

Wow, 3 paladins and a druid. What an odd party mix. A Tiefling Druid? Clearly, not min-maxers! All hail your players.
