Five question interviews...

Krug

Newshound
To promote various PDF products, how about a weekly. standard fill in the answers type interview to send to publishers/writers?

Some suggested questions:

1. Tell us about your product
2. What kind of gamer do you think it's for
3. The one thing about the book I'm most proud of
4. What's next?

The interviews can be posted here and linked to the news page so more folks will know about them.

Whatcha think?

How about...?

1. Give us an overview of your product line(s).
2. Tell us at length about your most recent project (upcoming or just released).
3. What is your main target audience and how much of a spread beyond that do you feel is likely, first for your line(s), then for your most recent?
4. What is the main thing about your company that makes you most proud?
5. Where do you see your company one year from now?

:)

Hey, I thought your's were good too, Krug. I think Mark's (minus question 2) are good for an overview of the company and Krug's for a specific product release. Why have a thread for both?? That way people could be invited week by week to put up something about their company and then either people could just post when they released something, or possibly one new release from each week cold be selected for interview....

On top of that, count me in. Having just done an interview for Downloader Monthly, the 'fame' is rushing to my head :).

Cheerio,

Ben

*steps up to the microphone, "Is this thing on?" 'tap, tap' "Whiiiiiiinnnnne" horrible feedback.* :D

1. Give us an overview of your product line(s).
Cartography Unlimited for RPGs started as a freelance cartographer company and now has branched out. First product was the RPG Freelancers Guide, which is sort of like the Writer's Guide that's published for fiction and non-fiction riders. Next up was the SRD in pdf format, the SRD 3.5 pdf and the SRD 3.5 Monsters pdf. Yes, I still do freelance cartography work.

2. Tell us at length about your most recent project (upcoming or just released).
Upcoming project to be released is The Town of Umberham pdf. This product can be used in any fantasy campaign. There are brief write ups for the region surrounding Umberham with maps, floorplans for a number of businesses and residences in Umberham itself. A map of the sewers and 151 npcs each with a brief description. There's a total of 73 color maps in this product and 73 black and white ones. A new demo of the product will be available in a couple of days, once I get the layout completed and finish typing the npc descriptions.

3. What is your main target audience and how much of a spread beyond that do you feel is likely, first for your line(s), then for your most recent?
Main target audience is those who use d20 since that's what I'm most familiar with. I should be more specific, Fantasy d20. I'm not that keen on Modern and futuristic rpgs, so I doubt any of my future products will go in that direction, except for another pdf that will have maps usable in a d20 modern campaign.

4. What is the main thing about your company that makes you most proud?
That I'm able to publish. Before the internet, I would never have thought I could get into rpg publishing or become a freelance cartographer for rpgs. I'm also proud of the maps that I make, which is always a lot of fun.

5. Where do you see your company one year from now?
Hmm, one year from now maybe I'll have a product or two in print. That would definitely be the icing on the cake. :D

*steps away from microphone*

That wasn't too painful.

Next!

Boy that was quick Anna. I'll keep it until Friday the 16th, as it'll be the first of the 'Friday Five'? Then I'll paste it over to a new thread and post a news item on the front page?

Malladin I'll have you for the 23rd then?

Mark the 30th?

Anybody else? Publishers might wanna tie in the intervie date to a product release.

Tentative schedule:
Jan 16th - Cartographers Unlimited, Anna Drobitt
Jan 23rd - Ben, Malladin's Gate
Jan 30th - Mark, CMG (tentative)

As for the questions, I'll let the interviewee decide if he wants to go for the product or company type questions.

Each interview will be a seperate thread, which will allow readers to post or enquire further.

Sounds good?

Naw. Not yet for me, please. I get quite a bit of exposure, I think, between being quite active on these boards, Chicago Gamedays, a fairly good amount of reviews, etc. I think, in all fairness, this project might be a nice way to give those who are struggling a way to get their message across.

I would like to propose that a list be started based on who has the least reviews available in the EN World d20 reviews database (alphabetcal where there are ties). Contact each of those companies and base the weekly list on who responds most quickly in cases where there's a week that someone doesn't get their response in on time.

Given that there are a lot of d20/OGL publishers, if the response to this is very good, perhaps do a couple of them (or even three) each week. If everyone is responding, doing three a week would allow this to be roughly a once a year update for each publisher (assuming that roughly 150 active publishers will respond). Perhaps the initial post in the thread could be used to keep track of them all and link to the place in the thread (or seperate thread) where that particular publisher has chimed in with their update.

Just a few more thoughts... (And thanks for the offer, but I think it is best if I wait for my fair turn.)
