Can one attack with the flame blade spell the same round that you cast it?

The argument for is that it should work just like a cause light wounds spell.

The argument against is that it creates someting like a magical weapon that allows you to attack multiple times with an iterative attack and lasts over time.

The druid in question cast the spell, took a 5 foot step and attacked all in the same round.

You can't cast the spell and attack in the same round. Flame blade is an effect spell, not a touch spell. You can cast and attack in the same round with CLW, because touching the target is part of casting that spell.
