FLGS and the DDI

Just wondering what some of the FLGS out there have started doing to incorporate the DDI into their store?

IE if they host a game night, do they have computers that the players can use to log in?

Printers that can be used to print out characters?

At least free wireless?

What about a "Store Account" open on a computer that customers can use to build characters if they don't have one already?

Just curious to see whats happening out there...

Not in my city. The only FLGS here has no computers...Heck, the clerk doesn't even own a computer!

Seems like it'd be a nifty idea, though.

My FLGS is adding store access to WiFi and already prints for users and will be adding print services.

A computer to access is a good idea, if it wasn't the devil in the details, I wonder if they would be willing...

Well, technically, once the Character builder is downloaded, it can be accessed without logging into DDi, so allowing customers to build characters seems like a good business decision. I know that I would quickly be buying my own DDi subby rather than going down to the FLGS every time I leveled.

Also, it'd be an effective way to show off 4e to non 4e people. They could look at classes/monsters and get a feel for the game; might actually increase some sales.

Funny enough, I think this is exactly why stores won't have DDI accounts open.

It'll increase sales...for DDI. And probably DECREASE their sales of their books.

I agree but it would seem that then the FLGS is falling in the same dilemma as the record industry. It would seem to me that the FLGS need to find something to sell other than the game books. So could they use the DDI to sell accessories.
Might be an idea to invest in an A0 printer and a copy of Dunjinni and encourage DM to print off battle mats in A3 and A0 and other large formats.
Minis for the character, and stuff like that.
Just thinking out loud here.

Hmmmm. Block or remove the USB slots of the PC with the Char/Monster Builder, and plug a printer to it? They can save/edit/etc. their PCs in the PC, but they'll have to pay for printing it.

There are plenty of dumb terminals one could get keep people from having access to a whole computer. I mean when I go to one of the local pubs that have a bijillion beers on tap an everyone has a personal list of every beer they've ordered, I'm sure a FLGS can get a computer to just run a single program or two.
