The Compleat Strategist is by far the best bet for finding a battlemat in Manhattan. My DM just bought one there last month.

BTW, I think the WOTC store in Woodbridge mall closed, along with a number of others in the tri-state area. The Game Room is still there, and they definitely will have battlemats too, if only because of their greater focus on miniature gaming.
