FLGS in San Francisco

NewLifeForm

First Post
I'm visiting San Francisco this week and need to know if there are any good RPG and/or Comic Book stores in the Bay Area. Any Californians willing to give a New Yorker a hand?

Will you only be in SF proper or will you be all over the Bay Area? As I said on that thread, if you can make a day trip to Berkeley it's kinda fun, and Games of Berkeley is right across from the Shattuck BART station.

It is OKAY. Games of Berkeley (right near the downtown Berkeley BART station) has a much better selection.
things must have changed since i left the Bay Area a few years ago... i thought Games of Berkeley was pretty lame but the SF Gamescape was FANTASTIC.

GoB got new management. I've never been to Gamescape but I hear it USED TO BE the shiznit.

This is all hearsay mind you; I don't shop at either of those places because I don't live in Berkeley or SF. Just a local boy who keeps his ear to the ground.

I don't know of the difference between Games of Berkeley and Gamescape anymore. I haven't been to Gamescape in perhaps a year, maybe longer. They were great a couple years ago, definitely better than Games of Berkeley but GoB has new management and a resurgence in their RPG section.

However if you are driving to Oakland I would recommend Endgame instead. Too bad they haven't managed to move into their new location yet, it is within blocks of BART and right next to a local brewery.

Yes things have changed. Gamescape's selection is limited, and they often do not reorder books that have been sold out. Games of Berkeley has a MUCH better selection, and it is easy to pick up books 10 percent off.

This is the case. (BTW, it's also Gamescape in Berkeley. Dunno when they changed the name.)

I no longer shop at Gamescape in the City. The employees always seemed too busy chatting with each other or regulars to assist, the selection sucked, they let people cherry-pick the D&D miniatures, and they simply would not give a discount. I can get most books for 30% off on Amazon; to get my business locally, you need to be willing to give me at least 10%. If I need something faster than Amazon can get it to me, I take a quick BART trip to Berkeley and buy it there.

The best comics shop in town is a half-block from my house in the Sunset. It's called the Isotope Comic Lounge. It's been featured in Time magazine, and about once a month the owner brings in a high-profile comics creator and throws a party, complete with booze (for those old enough). A few months back, I got to arm-wrestle Ed Brubaker, writer of Detective and Catwoman. (I won.)
