FLGS in Toronto

If you have access to a car, in the northern part of Toronto "Sci-Fi Cafe" is a cool visit. But, if you really want a large choice of both board games and D&D material. I would recommend "Comic Warehouse" in Brampton, North of the airport.

Odd that this comes up now. I just got back from an RPGA event in Toronto. I was looking around for game stores too.
I never found Hairy Tarantula but I did visit their website. The runners seem a little...off.

Perhaps the powers that be here at enworld could make "Games Stores in X" a persistant thread and people could post to it. That way, if I know I am going to Cheboiganville, I could look at that thread and say "Hey! Cheboiganville Games and Car Wash right on Main St. cool!"

I believe a game store on the model of the very successful Drexoll Games in Vancouver would do well in TO.

Every time I walk down Queen West I note locations it might work at.

And once my current short-term debt is paid off...

Well, let me know, and I will duly patronize your establisment. :D

I would recommend you check out the Silver Snail down on Queen Street, not only do they have a really great d&d section, but the place is full of really great stuff and is really clean and professional.
Sorry Gregor, but the Snail hardly qualifies as a "F" LGS. (IMEHO) Not to mention being the most upscale in terms of collectibles means their prices are way out there.

For prices and selection of stock the Hairy T is definitely the place. 401G seems to lean really really heavily towards card-gaming rather than RPGing but that's just my impression.

There's also a second-hand comic-shop further up Yonge near Wellesley called Grey Region, they have a smaller RPG selection but there is some obscure stuff in there too, and they have a VAST miniatures wall.

Grey Region also has some older AD&D materials, including some 1e modules (but they can be pricey).

Grey Region (I thought it was Grey Matter, but I haven't been there in a few years - since my friend Lisa stopped working there) had some awesome stuff in the used section, including piles of old maps out of old games and boxed sets.

Yeah, they USED to have the old maps loose in a box, but that's been gone by the wayside for a while now.

Agreed,. 401 games and Hairy T downtown - and the Comic Warehouse in Brampton (main store on Steeles).

If lead pewter historical minis are your thing, the Crossed Swords is worth a visit.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I wasn't actually looking for anything in particular. I just thought I might find something interesting that my very tiny local game store here at home doesn't have.

I also thought I might be able to take advantage of the strong pound - dollar exchange rate to maybe pick up a bargin.

The pound/dollar exchange isn't all that strong comparatively. The dollar is on an upsurge and the exchange rate is currently 2:1 basically (whereas historically it has been around 2.25 for the past ten years). If anything, the pound is weak against the Canadian dollar these days.

Where the exchange is good is in the US. Books and most other consumer goods are 20-40% cheaper in the US compared to Canada, and the Pound to USD exchange rate is basically the same as the Pound to Canadian dollar rate.
