Flintstones d20... Call for assistance!

thundershot

Adventurer
Well, the second "leap" of my Exiles campaign occured yesterday, and I was unfortunately caught unprepared... somewhat.

They've arrived in prehistoric times, and the group needs to rescue a child who has unbelievable superhuman powers, and get him to a family that will care for him properly. If the timeline is left unattended, he will become the greatest villain the world has known...

It didn't take long for some of the modern members of the group to realize that they were in Bedrock, and had to find who will become Bamm-Bamm Rubble, and deliver him to the doorstep of his soon-to-be adoptive parents.

The thing I need from everyone... is Bedrock technology. Fortunately, they didn't do much, and ended up shopping for clothes, and stayed at a hotel (mammoth shower and baby elephant vacuum cleaner, and stone beds), but for the life of me, I couldn't find any good sites that had lists of the various ways they used creatures for technology. (The druid of the group used Animal Friendship on the vacuum cleaner, so having stats for a mini-elephant might be nice)..

Can anyone help me out? Any Flintstone connesours?

Thanks
Chris

Oh, my dear Lord.

is Bedrock technology. Fortunately, they didn't do much, and ended up shopping for clothes, and stayed at a hotel (mammoth shower and baby elephant vacuum cleaner, and stone beds), but for the life of me, I couldn't find any good sites that had lists of the various ways they used creatures for technology. Things to remember:

  • If you want to keep the feel of the original Flintstones, don't forget to observe the circa 1960's technology and cultural values. Computers would be big and bulky and not in a home, men would be going to the lodge or shooting pool on a friday night, women have their ladies' auxiliary clubs, etc.
  • Things I can remember from the cartoons: small green dinosaur push lawn mowers, brontosaurus rock crushers, badminton birdies that are actual birds, pistols that are glorified catapults, wheels made of rock, gigantic pteradactyls with wood cabins on their back for airplanes, sewing machines where you string the thread into the bird's beak, etc.
  • Remember that if it's automated, that a bird, a pteradactyl, a dinosaur, or a mammoth is doing the action.

I love the idea, and your bravery in implementing it. Good luck, and may your players never lynch you. ;)

All I can remember is that the garbage disposal was some sort of animal (can't remember if it was a mammal or a dinosaur though). Like Henry said, remember the 1960s cultural values. ;)

Actually, the garbage disposal was a prehistoric pig.

Also, office intercoms were talking birds that hung out in a box, and when you send a message, it flies to another box and repeats the message.

All writing material was stone, and a pen was a hammer and chisel. The hedge trimmer was a bird that you moved the feet, and it chopped the hedge with it's beak (and usually said "Ah, it's a living").

Of course, there's the cars, running on foot power. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the sink was a mammoth hanging out outside with a hole for the trunk.

Soda (or pop, or sodapop if you're so inclined) was "cactus juice".

The record player was an old victrola type with a bird's beak for the stylus..

Hmm...I may be getting into stuff that has been already said, so that's all I'll put. Hope this helps somewhat.

I would recommend renting and watching both movies, those have things in them that were never in the cartoons, like what happens when one of those ptery's takes a dump.

Bah..! The Bedrock adventure came and went... and they had fun, which is what matters. They ended up killing a few thugs unnecessarily, but they did save Bamm-Bamm, and delivered him to the doorstep of the Rubbles, and took off back to their era.. the next leap was in the middle of a Halfling/Dwarf war... :D
