Flip mats versus Tact Tiles

Hello,

I've been planning on buying a set of Tact-Tiles since I first read about them in Monte Cook's Dungeoncraft article a year back. Now the Flip mats are meeting with high praise as well. Has anyone used both? If so, which would you recommend?

Thanks!

I have both.

Tact Tiles cover more space. They are larger. They don't hold things like the dragon stamp inks well.

The flip matt is smaller. It's less expensive.

Depends on what you're needs are.

Thanks for the link :)

Now that I have checked out both, it's a pretty tough call; it depends on your specific gaming needs. However, if your budget permits, it might be a good idea to grab them both. They each seem to address a different specific need.

I have both. I only recently picked up the Flip-mat at Gen Con and haven't had a great chance to use it yet. I see them as sort of fulfilling two different needs. One of the things that make Tact-Tiles great is that you can erase an unused tile and move it to where you need it it. No more erasing the whole mat just to draw a room that doesn't fit. You can also tailor the space to where you need it with Tact-Tiles which is nice.

The Flip-mat though is much more portable since it folds up so small and it can use wet and dry erase markers on it. I see its big use for conventions and for frequent travel. I can always have a battle mat at hand without needing to lug around the Tact-tiles for just in case scenarios.

So I like both of them and am glad I have both. Probably a lot depends on your gaming needs.

If I could only choose one, I would take the Tact-Tiles, no question, but the flip mat is very nice. I bought one at GenCon and intend to use it for a more portable solution, especially for running one shots and game days.

I had a mat forever and just recently started using Tact Tiles. I prefer the tiles MUCH more than the mat. It allows you to only have to use small areas at a time and they are dry erase. And if more space is needed, just add a tile. No need to take up more space than you have to. The flip-mat, while a good idea, is essentially the same as the mat I used to have, except that it's dry erase.

I'll not stop using my Tact-Tiles at home, but the Flip-Mat has become my convention pal. It's what I'll be taking with me whenever I DM somewhere other than my own game room. Both are really great.
