I'll cut them slack on the DR1s. It's a lot easier on the audience to tell one side from another in the big battle scenes when the planes are obviously different.

I can almost agree with that but still it was irritating for someone who knows better, and that really was my only trouble with the movie. The large number of characters was to be expected, after all it is a war movie. In fact there were less men in the team in Flyboy's than in Band of Brothers, or other similar world war 2 movies.

The main characters were just out of period. I mean the way they looked, acted, etc... If you can ignore it all the good, the flying scenes are quite good even if there aren't enough of them. But why couldn't they have gotten actors to play their main characters like their supporting actors. I mean there's the scene where they walk into the pilot's bar and the main character's just don't fit in the period, they might as well be from outer space. But the supporting role aviators just fit in, they belong in the place and period, why couldn't they have used them as main roles and dumped the modern prettyboys.

And if you hated Pearl Harbor, you might still like this one. We went in half-expecting a PH class debacle, and were pleasantly surprised that it didn't totally suck.

I'll be honest that I haven't seen it yet. I'd like to.

And on this similar vein: What do people think of the trailer for "Flags of Our Fathers" coming out on the 20th?

To me, it looks like a good movie. Don't know how much they'll "stretch" the facts like they did for Pearl Harbor.

I'm not terribly interested, but Eastwood has directed some damn fine movies, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Still probably wait for video, though.

I believe this is part of a project I heard about where Clint filmed both sides of the conflict. Something about Flags of Our Fathers being from the American perspective, and Letters from Iwo Jima from the Japanese perspective.

I'm psyched for both, and impressed he opted to take on a project that did both.
