Has anyone written about running a football match? Old school style. Kick off with an inflated goat bladder ball halfway between two villages, and the first team to get the ball into the opposition's village is the winner. I found some sports stuff that i have used in the past (all three made for great sessions): Worlds to Go DriveThruRPG ; Mud Wrestling DriveThruRPG ; Archery Contests Index — EN5ider: Professional DnD Content For Your Game . But i couldn't see anything on football. And so was wondering if i had missed something My thoughts so far: 1). In settled regions villages are half a days walk apart (12 miles. So six miles to each village, which is two hours at a normal pace or 90 minutes at a fast pace. So have a CON check at each hour to avoid fatigue. 2) A simple kick or pass is a DC 10 to hit the target. A long kick or over the head is a DC 15. 3) No (obvious) weapons or spells. A cleric might get away with "bless" or a rogue with a hidden cosh but if someone pulls out a greatsword the other side is going to cry foul. 4) The ball can't pass through difficult terrain like unharvested grain crops, thickets and walls. So most of the game will be limited to the more open terrain of roads and grazed fields. 5) Dexterous characters should be able to long kick over difficult terrain while strong characters might just bull through it. 6) Part of the opposition is a squad of relevant CR creatures that will try and mob who ever possess the ball. The opposition is a village (ie up to 10,000 people) so they should have as many squads as keep the match interesting. There needs to be some social challenges. Like before the game, some of the older members of the opposition village try to get the PCs intoxicated (poisoned condition). Or the PCs being able to flatter to opposition plans out of them. Or a flyting contest (ye olde rap battle) that could lead to a level of strife. Or, a young widow/widower trying to wheedle a marriage proposal out of one of the PCs during the match. Or the teams can have a dance off (Performance) before kick off to try an intimidate the opposition. Or a parade of local elephants decide to play with the ball, and have to be persuaded to give it back. Or an oppostion member confessess a spiritual crisis to a PC cleric...
