Following D&D

Here's something, I feel that following D&D just because it's called D&D is stupid. There's plenty of other tabletop games that blow D&D out of the water now, and I feel that most people, when they're purchasing D&D material, are just buying the name "Dungeons and Dragons" and they don't even know why, except for the fact that everyone knows what D&D is, and playing what's popular is "cool", which is lame.

Brand Recognition is a pretty important factor. No doubt about it.

What sort of games are you talking about, though?

Cheers!

Anything I try and pitch will just be taken head on as A) An insult toward D&D and will put anyone in love with D&D on the defensive or B) will be nitpicked to death to the point where it will be hated even though the things that will be "not liked" might not even come close to the problems with D&D right now, but "will not be worth switching".

It's funny how something new has to prove itself as "perfect" but something old like D&D is fine, even if it's houseruled to death to make it playable.

So, I don't really feel like wasting my time writing up anything about any other games because I know that whatever I post will be considered an attack and will be countered with endless netpick responses about things like, how I worded certain things, and so forth.

So I leave you all with my original post, and I won't be visiting these forums anymore, not out of hate for D&D (although I'm not happy with where it is now or heading) or out of hate of you all, but just because I don't' want to waste my time any further here.

Edit: If you are 100% seriously interested in another Tabletop game that I consider amazing feel free to PM or E-mail me or whatever it is you can do on these forums.

In the "Killing Time Before 4e Comes Out" thread, it was even suggested to try something other than DnD.

We just wanted some examples of other games to try instead of just being bashed for being hopeless DnD fanbois.

Okay... thats a pretty big assumption. Do you have any statistics to back up this claim? How many people are "following" D&D just because its called D&D?

There's plenty of other tabletop games that blow D&D out of the water now...

Please expound on "games that blow D&D out of the water." That claim is extremely ambiguous... and highly subjective.

...and I feel that most people, when they're purchasing D&D material, are just buying the name "Dungeons and Dragons" and they don't even know why, except for the fact that everyone knows what D&D is, and playing what's popular is "cool", which is lame.

This makes the assumption that anyone that purchases the game is incapable of choosing a ruleset based on what it delivers rather than just brand-recognition. While not only insulting, this is patently false. I debated purchasing the 3E core for at least a week before getting it. I based it on many factors and weighed it against three other rulesets.

I enjoy D&D, and own/played OD&D, 1E and 3E... but even with a long history, I definitely wouldn't consider it "cool". It is in fact a bit of a guilty pleasure. Because I can guarantee you, that if I'm at a nightclub, at a party, or trying to get a date with some little hottie, I most definitely don't try to impress people by discussing my experiences with D&D.

D&D is fun... not "cool".

So you'll make an argument without reasons to support it.

Therefore you are merely making assertions that have no merit.

Thanks for trolling... you are dismissed.

Its nice when people who leave a community issue a final post, thanking others for their passion and dedication to a shared interest.

Leaving all embittered, and liking community members to conforming sheep or reactionary attack dogs seems kind of immature and unnecessary.

He's proven right without even posting a list!

Man! Maybe I should leave these boards too.

Naw!! I wouldn't be that nice.
