? for Publishers - Submission Etiquette

Hello,
I have a question about asking if a submission has been accepted or not. Back in August or so, I submitted some material for an open call. A couple weeks later, an email was sent to the submitters, saying that we would be notified in a couple of weeks as to the status of our acceptance. About two months later, I emailed to inquire as to the selection status, and was told that submissions were still being considered. So it's about 3 months later now, and I'm curious to know if it would be a breach of etiquette for me to inquire once again. I want to know mainly because if the material I sent was not accepted, I want to rework it and maybe submit it someplace else. Thanks in advance.
