FOR SALE/TRADE-RPG Books/Box Sets (Tekumel, Talislanta, C+C, Mayfair, JG, HARN)

Some NobleKnight results ...

Thanks Mark ...

Well, so far my dealings with NobleKnight have been ... less than positive.

Don't get me wrong, they seem like really great people ... but first off, because I am in Canada, they want me to pay half the shipping costs (though for US residents don't have to worry about shipping) and secondly ... the prices they are offering? Ridiculous!

For example ... the HARN

1) "TEKUMEL - EMPIRE OF THE PETAL THRONE")
(Cash = 20/ Trade = 25 / Their List Price = 75)

12) "THE TALISLANTA GUIDEBOOK (3rd Edition)"
(Cash = 2 / Trade = 3 / Their List Price = 18)

15) "ELRIC OF MELNIBONE"
(Cash = 4 / Trade = 5 / Their List Price = 24)

31) "GODS OF HARN"
(Cash = 10 / Trade = 12 / Their List Price = 55)

35) "ORBAAL - KINGDOM MODULE"
(Cash = 10 / Trade = 12 / Their List Price = 42)

38) "MELDERYN - KINGDOM MODULE"
(Cash = 20 / Trade = 24 / Their List Price = 95)

48) "WILDERLANDS OF HIGH FANTASY (Box Set)"
(Cash = 40 / Trade = 50 / Their List Price = 125)

49) "GARY GYGAX'S CASTLE ZAGYG - YGGSBURGH"
(Cash = 3 / Trade = 4 / Their List Price = 30)

All in all, I "estimate" the list price/value of my books at about $1600 (using their website as a very rough guide and taking into account condition and such) ... and they are offering me $400 in cash / $500 in trade for the entire lot ... and again, I have to pay half the shipping! :(

I've always been interested in the Primal Order stuff, but never had the chance to read any of it. I had a friend in high school who collected the first book and maybe a few more, but I didn't think much of playing gods at the time.

What do you think of it? Is it wargame rules? Something adaptable more or less to different editions of D&D? What are the values for them, asking price, etc.?

That's too bad. I can't even seem to figure out the rhyme or reason of their cash or trade quotes (there doesn't seem to be a regular percentage across the board). Anyway, good luck with the rest of the sales and let us all know if you add any more to the list. Plus, thanks for sharing the info on Noble Knight.

Here is an email I sent them earlier today:

"Hello again ... I'm just wondering why the value of some of my items are so low compared to items of similar condition listed on your site? Just one example; the Melderyn Kingdom module ... you have it listed for $95, but you'll only give me $20 cash or $25 trade?

I totally understand that you're running a business, but that seems extremely low give the rarity of some of the items I have ... can you explain how that all works? Or am I missing the obvious? Nor do I understand why Noble Knight will pay for shipping for US customers, but not Canadian ... there can't be that much of a difference in shipping costs. Or is there?"

And their response:

"That is probably the most extreme example, but the reason for the pricing is the most we've ever been actually to sell a copy for is $50. We hadn't had one in awhile, so I was assuming that is why my cataloguer tried it at $95. I'm lowering to $75 now and if we get yours will lower it again. Otherwise the prices are based on reasonable expectation of selling costs, and how many I have in stock. In order to take on an item I already have in stock I do need a decent mark-up as it may be a long while before I sell many of them (and some items sit for many years).

Unfortunately yes. Depending where you are in the USA we can get a 25 pound box shipped to us for $10-$20. Shipping costs are more from Canada then in the USA by about double+, from what I have seen, but I will still cover 1/2 of the shipping."

Makes sense I guess. :erm:

It does make somewhat more sense than before. They have a list they aren't sharing off which they base quotes that reflects their best ever sale on an item. I can see how that leaves us fumbling for the numbers and not able to make sense of them. It is true, too, that Media Mail in the US is a great rate. I recently shipped a 40 lb box of books for around $20. I've also had a few books shipped to me from Canada that cost nearly that, though admittedly I don't know just how it had been calculated (though I was told then that there was no Canadian equivalent of the US Media Mail rate).

Is there a Canadian counterpart to Noble Knight you can try for a quote?

No, I don't think there is a Canadian equivalent, Mark ... but I seem to be having a fair amount of luck selling to and trading with some great people ... so I might not have much to send to NobleKnight after all.

The nice thing about it was that they took the time to explain it, rather than just saying "Take it or leave it.", ya know?

:)
