For those who don't play D&D (or its clones), what keeps you engaged with EN World?

For me, who mostly play non-D&D type games (although we occasionally play AD&D, OSE or some other clone for shorter campaigns) I visit ENWorld mostly to keep a finger on the pulse of the hobby in large. So much revolves around D&D that I feel that some of the more "high level" discussion are of interest to me. And the occassional news item piques my interest of course.

And to see familiar names posting good stuff, that's always brings a smile to my face (been here since 2002).

Since I stopped gaming actively I’ve found I’ve been dropping in here less and less, and the frequency with which I post anything has dropped even further. It’s mostly just curiosity at this point – both in terms of RPG news (where ENWorld has been my go-to site for decades, and will remain so for as long as it exists), and also in terms of what is being discussed.

I’m not entirely sure to what extent that counts as “engagement”, though.

I'm here for the print- and crowdfunding news. Also I like to lurk around the boards seeing what upsets people. Not a fan of getting upset myself but I try to back away when this happens and get back again at a later date with fresh eyes.

I stopped reading most of the RPG news because I have to fight FOMO afterwards. A retirement budget is not the same as a full-time work budget.

The media section can be fun when threads don't spin out of control. Since I'm no longer interested in Star Trek, Star Wars, DCU and MCU, it limits the number of threads I want to read. The book and music threads are my favourites.

Last winter, I took a break from all social media for 90 days. It was a necessary but no social media is too harsh. I came back here and limit my number of posts per day. I read the TTRPG section.

My wife retires at the end of June. I will reduce my participation even further.

While I wish the non-D&D chatter was more frequent I do find EN World a good RPG general discussion place. I can compare and contrast games in ways that specific sites don’t have an interest in. I can also get diverse opinions while mostly avoiding the unpleasantness of many internet sites.

Folks also have interesting discussions on films and books that I enjoy. To me EN World is like an old style terrestrial radio station. I know what to expect from the programming but I can’t predict it all and will be exposed to a variety as opposed to being fed by an algorithm the same stuff until I’m bubbled.

I use the site to keep up with news, and get tastes of other groups' ideas. This is the only forum on the site I try to keep up with.

I've been visiting this site so long that this is actually my 2nd account since my first one got lost in a site crash many years ago. I've been less involved with visiting the site (compared to back when 3.0-3.5 was dominant) as I no longer run or play D&D and moved over to Pathfinder and other games. I mostly come here out of habit these days.

These days I'm here mostly for the industry news, the occasional "TTRPG General" thread that catches my eye, and the White Dwarf retrospective (and before that, other older gaming mag rundowns). I dip into orange threads now and then largely to remind myself that I don't really want to play D&D any more, especially post-4e.

Once in a while I'll go look for something interesting in the way of PbP games, but that's just misplaced optimism.

Besides some OSR stuff I don’t play D&D anymore, but I do play other systems. But I do a quick visit almost daily, mostly for news and keeping in touch with major debacles, but also because I find it entertaining to read about what a specific small but vocal and very opinionated group currently think RPG:s are and how they relate to societal phenomena, and how they should be approached and played - and how those views move and evolve over time.
