So, why do they portray Sean as being so dumb, anyway? Did he do something in RL that showed him as being stupid?

Because it's fun to laugh at.

Not that I think most Hollywood actors are smart by any stretch. Certainly some are, but by and large I think most of them are probably very ignorant about a great many things.

And then there's the ones that do something as a publicity stunt/because it's the cool thing to do.

I enjoy the Jepoardy sketches because we get to see the rare, restrained Will Farrell, who is still funny.

There are some more "Celebrity Jeopardy" skits HERE. This site also has various other SNL, MAD TV, and In Living Color skits as well as bits from tons of other shows. Very funny stuff! My favorites are probably the Man Show Boy bits.
