Forbidden Magic (The Gates of Hell Chpt 2)

First Post
Chapter 2 of the Gates of Hell is now available at Dicefreaks. With more than 20 new epic spells, as well as rules on summoning the powers of Hell themselves, there's bound to be something for you within.

As you predicted, I was most pleased with this chapter. The epic spells are good, of course -- I especially liked the new seeds -- but I was pleasently surprised by the new incantations and weapon abilities.

I disagree with the pricing of Accursed's second mitigating factor (-10 is too good; I'd make it -5), but that's a minor issue. Actually, looking at the spell I'm not really sure why it needs the compel seed since it already has transform -- since the spell is changing the target directly (not using the powers of Hell), I see no need to make them choose the path. These changes would lower the DC to 148, or a nice round 150 without XP cost.

The problem with Epic Spell development is that it's not an exact science. Combine that with several people working on different spells, and you're bound to get some disagreements. That said, I'll take your suggestions into consideration for a possible change prior to re-release of all 9 chapters once we're through (Epic Dispelling is a major mistake on my part, but otherwise I'm fairly pleased with the response to this chapter around the place).

Thanks for your comments, CRGreathouse!

My comments are just off the top of my head, and I'm sure that when compiling all the chapters at the end appropriate choices will be made. I'm not deadset on this, or any other, change.

I had considered bringing up Epic Dispelling, but thought the better of it.

In any case, though -- great job! Chapter 3 should be especially exciting, and I look forward to it.

Yes, I'm looking forward to - and a little anxious over - the response to Chapter 3: Prestige Classes of Perdition.

This is because both Chapters 2 and 3 were pretty much spearheaded by Selah. He's pretty good, isn't he?
