Force Mage?

First Post
I have looked through the Pathfinder material that I have and have not seen any sorcerer/wizard bloodlines, schools, or archetypes that are force oriented. Did I miss one or is it just not there? The Argent Savant and Abjurant Champion are my favorite arcane prestige classes from 3.5, but I would like to try to stick with Pathfinder material.

Maybe try a Psionics based character? The Paizo book Psionics Unleashed just came out too. You can role-play it any way you like it by saying you're a "force mage."

That's my 2 coppers,

Technically that book is by Dreamscarred Press and for sale on the Paizo site, not written by Paizo.

If I recall, the Evoker wizard's default spell like ability is to fire off magic missiles. Not the specialty you are looking for but maybe a start?

My bad, I wasn't paying attention to the actual publisher, there was no disrespect intended by me towards Dreamscarred Press.

I stick by my original idea that a Psionic character is probably the best kind for what milo wants to play as far as flavor and mechanics go. Of course this is all up to the DM since a lot of DM's do not allow Psionics or 3pp stuff into their campaigns.

I feel it's still worth a look at the book for milo and their DM to see if it's possible to work it and the character milo wants to play into their campaign if that's they route they want to go.

The other thing that you could do milo is get really creative and completely "reskin" spells from a normal wizard/sorcerer. An example: say you are unleashing a "force ball" which is a fireball that does something like sonic damage or physical damage OR you could just keep with the same stats and just rename spells/descriptions of the spells.

It's probably more work for you, but if you really want to play a "force mage," it might be a fun thing to do with your DM's permission and/or help.

Just have fun with it if you can't find something that fits your needs perfectly, this is role-playing and you get to define the role you play!

I do have the Dreamscarred Press Psionics, but I was hoping to find something arcane. I haven't looked at every spell in the APG and UC yet either, so I don't know if there are enough spells to support playing a force mage in Pathfinder.
I might be able to talk to the DM and use the Draconic bloodline and use force dragon as my bloodline. It isn't Pathfinder material, but it would probably be the easiest conversion to do.

What about my other suggestions to "re-skin" or "rename" some spells adding your own flavor and/or descriptions to them?

There is nothing that says you can't do this, it's a game of imagination. You don't need to be pigeonholed into the thinking that a "force mage" must be a pre-made class or concept for you.

I will definitely need to redo some spells to fill out a full spell list for a mage that focuses on force spells. I don't think Pathfinder has a very large list of that type of spell. I will have to look through the material already published to try to balance against it.

I agree with this fully, I always want to check to see if there is something that is already made for my purpose before I try to make it. It will generally be more balanced than something I make.

There are 24 Force spells, of which 19 are Arcane (Pathfinder SRD - Category:Spells with the force descriptor). All but one are either Abjuration or Evocation. Seems like there are few, if any, at mid levels.

Perhaps the GM might agree to make "force" a replacement for an energy descriptor for a Force bloodline. This doesn't seem hugely unreasonable, especially as the Sorcerer has a limited spell selection overall.

Thoughts from a balance guru? StreamOfTheSky, I summon thee!
