Pathfinder 1E Forcecage question?

Hi. We had a session last night where some cr13 Ashmede Devils put "forcecage" on some
characters.

At first, players were trying to smash their way out, using the spell descriptions 30 hardness
guide, but then someone said they could just "break" out with sudden force, so we were just
wondering if that would actually work with a cage of pure "force" as we couldn't find anything
to relate to it on the chart.

So can it be done that way, or (aside from something magical) does it have to use the hardness
rating?

Thanks guys.

No, force will not break a wall of force, as per wall of force and the Forcecage magic item the rules are very explicit. Only disintegrate, rod of cancellation, and mage's disjunction automatically takes it out. Otherwise 30 hardness, and damage by weapon or spell to destroy it. Of course you can teleport and dimension door out, but no other way to destroy a Forcecage.
