Forgery question

Okay. Say there is a rouge, with the following skills:
Forgery
Craft Gem cutting
Craft Glass blowing

Could it be possible for said thief to then make forgeries of gems? Is it fessible to think that a person who knows gems and can forge things, could make ordinary glass look like gems. While diamonds are too easy to detect other things aren't. Didn't they have colored glass back then? I know when I went on a cruise the "offical" shopper of the cruise said to be careful because there had been a lady who bought an emerald in mexico and it turned out to be a melted Heinkein bottle. So don't you think that it would be possible back in ancient times? Or am I just trying to pull something out of something that isn't there.

if i had a player who wanted to try this, i would:

1) probably not use forgery, since it's really meant for written documents

2) use gem cutting to give a synergy bonus to the craft: glassblowing (+2 for 5 ranks), since the cutting won't affect the quality of the fake, only the percieved value of the 'gem'

3) use the craft: glassblowing total act as the DC to tell it's a fake (opposed by Appraise)

Well the forgery skill is specifically for documents. A read of the skill will reveal that. I would say that it is possible to make fake gems from glass here is how I would handle it though.

Required skills
Knowledge Gems & Jewels - 5+ ranks
Craft Glass working - 5+ ranks

The DM makes a craft check at a +2 synergy bonus for creating the fake item. Then when the item is placed under scrutiny the appraise check opposes the craft check.

I don't know why I put Forgery I meant to say Appraise.

I said gemcutting that way they would know how gems are supposed to be cut and look. But if there is a Knowledge Gems & Jewelry that would work a little better.
