Forgotten Realms or Midnight

Midnight, Midnight, Midnight!!! It's by far the best setting that's been released for d20 and I might go so far as to say the best Middle-Earth without being ME game EVAR!

You really should make this a poll.

Are you kidding? Midnight all the way. Its dark, atmospheric, and a world where the PCs might be able to really make a difference. The forces of good are down, but not completely out. Evil is dominant in pretty much every land, but some people still try to eke out an existance and fight against the corruption. Its a world where a few heroes might actually be able to accomplish something important, even if on a small scale. Midnight has the epic feel, without the epic magic and power inflation. FR, on the other hand, lacks the epic feel, but has the epic power inflation. Plus Midnight has the added benefit of not having a million badly written novels about it, so players cannot go crazy if you modify the world from what was stated in the novels. Finally, Midnight has no uber-NPC (Elminster and company, I'm looking at you) to ruin the world. If you haven't had to suffer through the Realms yet, save yourself some pain and go straight to Midnight. You won't regret it.

Yeah, what he said! Thanks, that was a bit more what I was after but I failed to be quite so to the point.

Midnight, for me, is a lot like ravenloft of world of darkness. A great read, but a pain in the kender to actually try to run. I love the core book, because it has a wonderful story, but its not a place i'd actually want to play in.

Of course, i'm highly biased as a dragonlance fan =)

*follows the other heretics* Scarred Lands! Though Midnight is very good. ;)

Huh. Nightfall likes Scarred lands. I wouldn't have thought it'd be his sort of setting . . . I guess you learn something new every day. :D

Al Qa-frickin'-dim. :D

I must agree.

Though I would generally go for Forgotten Realms.

There's just too much going on for anything so themed as Midnight to compete. Even Exalted is not so rich, though it has other advantages.

That said the comparison is a little unfair. Midnight is a heck of a lot smaller. That seems petty but it makes Midnight a lot more of a narrative setting where FR is more historical.
