Forgotten Realms or Midnight

Hmmm...

So, I have only been playing D&D for about 2yrs, but, I would say FR for newbie. And Midnight for those who like it (I have yet to run/play it, but I LOVE it).

Huh. Nightfall likes Scarred lands. I wouldn't have thought it'd be his sort of setting . . . I guess you learn something new every day. :D

Right...and the fact I have that in my signature didn't tip you off? ;) :D

FR GOOD!

Abeir-Toril 4-evah!:D

I just LOVE the Forgotten Realms. Nice, in-depth, cities everywhere, love the setup of nations. The Sword Coast has always been a big Fave. OOH! I just love it so. First arrived when I started the Baldur's Gate CRPG, and I've been hooked ever since. It's just perfect....once you tone down the Pet NPCs that are in the books.:D

FR

For me it´s Forgotten Realms. But that´s easy since I know zilch about the setting Midnight. However, I might obtain a copy of Midnight later this year when FFG is on the GameCon here in Holland in November.

Very different campaigns:

Forgotten Realms: NPCs are super heroic, powerful, and overblown. I get the feeling it was designed in such a way as to keep power gaming PCs feeling like small fish. In fact I remember a mercenary band description that specifically stated it could be used to counter PCs who got too big for their britches (so to speak). High, big, super magic campaign, tons of support and literature available. Personally appeals to me not at all.

Midnight: Characters are little fish in a dark sea. Tons of cool classes, races, new and very interesting magic system (magic is outlawed!!). Darkly heroic, PCs will probably die horrible deaths. Do you like the idea of Lord of the Rings where Sauron wins and the PCs are struggling in that world?

I have to add that you can use the FRCS without using the numbers and stats for the NCPs. I run a low-magic (item) campaign in the FR, and it works out very well. You don't have to run Elmister as an Epic mage of level X, you don't even have to run him at all. Just take the different cultures and nations from the FRCS, and use the level of magic you are comfortable with. You can run a gritty camapign as well - there are plenty of areas where your PCs can fight an evil oppressive empire.

Midnight. Hands down. No question.

Midnight, for me, is a lot like ravenloft of world of darkness. A great read, but a pain in the kender to actually try to run. I love the core book, because it has a wonderful story, but its not a place i'd actually want to play in.

Really? I have the opposite problem. I have so many ideas, my only problem is only getting to game every other week.

Awesome setting. Wonderful depth. Beutiful art. The book itself really sets the mood.

If you like dark, gritty, low magic settings, this is the setting for you. Very high quality, and it's actually cheaper than the Realms.
