Forked from: Reflavoring 4E for Athas (Forked From: Dark Sun 4e: Can it work?)
Mouseferatu asked the question of how to reflavor 4e for Darksun. I'd like to look at it differently and ask how to modify the 4e rules for Darksun. The goal is to stay as close as we can, to the original Darksun setting while using 4e rules as much as possible.
The 2e Darksun made a lot of fairly simple changes to 2e. A few new classes, each pretty simple, a major rewrite of clerics, the elimination of the paladin, some mechanical changes to the base races, etc. It seems reasonable that similar changes should happen in an 4e adaption. I'll touch on two races as a starting point.

Races
- Half-Gaints: Size Large, +6 STR, +4 CON, -2 INT, WIS, CHR. Armor and clothes are 4x the cost, everything else (weapons etc.) is 2x. Modify lifting rules (do we have any?) so they can lift a LOT. Perhaps give +10 hit points at start, and +2 per level after 1. Anything else?
- Mul +4 STR, +2 CON, -2 CHR. +10 on Endurance checks, plus some additional labor-related rules.
