Forked Thread: Three more days

Should the ceasefire for the edition wars be extended another 30 days or more?

He's little more then a licensed troll who purposefully tries to derail threads into him giving stupid one liners as the other person unfortunately gets drawn into his trolling, and he's warned in just about every other thread he appears in.

I won't QFT that but...

I've seen hong perform plenty acts of low-grade trolling. This is not an attempt to start a fight. hong's a good contributor and an insightful poster. But let's call a duck a duck. He's also an A-grade zhit disturber when he wants to be.

And that's all I'll say on the matter. Except...

PUNCH AND PIE!!!

I think you're factually incorrect there, and of course, if you think someone is trolling, report it don't discuss it.

ProfessorCirno, we've gone head to head a few times as well, but, I think you can be an articulate and passionate poster. Try to look at it this way,

If you are getting the same reaction out of Hong frequently, ask yourself what triggers it? What did you do that brought up the "don't think too hard about fantasy" line? Honestly, I see Hong doing this when people tend to get stuck in a rut and repeat the same argument over and over again.

In other words, if you keep inputting the same thing, you'll keep getting the same output.

In the end, who cares? Without a doubt there are any number of people who dislike someone else or think they are a troll. Me, I don't care if Hong eats babies and sacrificies puppies, it isn't the topic here. Can we fork this into a "I don't like Hong" or whatever thread (assuming we can't blow this off) and get back to figuring out a way to talk about the editions of D&D without knifes and foul language?

Fixed that for you.
We don't do that anymore, GnomeWorks...

And I think the original observation is spot on. Think about it. Read what he writes. And if you don't agree, but have already posted how you don't agree, why keep going? It's obvious that you have your opinion and hong has his own.

Hong cares, he likes when people talk about him. ;)

I care, because I too often have the impression that people don't bother to really read and think about what he (and others) write and instead everyone (including hong, me and anyone else) gets into a repeat mode that at best leads to nothing and at worst just pours oil into flames.

(dark humor)

Plane Sailing clearly stated that the Cease-Fire should last for one month.
Very well, but a month can be 28 days, 29 days (leap year), 30 days, or 31 days.

Now, he issued the Cease Fire at 2:06 P:M on June 11th, and the general assumption has been that the Cease Fire will expire at 2:06 P:M on July 11th.

But! ...

If a month lasts 28 days, then the Cease Fire expires on July 8th, at 2:06 P:M! (20 days in June, and 8 days in July.)
If a month lasts 29 days, then the Cease Fire expires on July 9th.
If a month lasts 30 days, then the Cease Fire expires on July 10th.
Only if a month lasts 31 days, does the Cease Fire actually expire on July 11th, at 2:06 P:M, ENWorld time.

Thus, it would appear you poor guys were hoodwinked, and cheated out of precious days of bloodletting. A most diabolical, fiendish plot by Plane Sailing and Morrus to deprive you of your rights as ENWorlders!

So, what to do? Well, storm the barricades, of course! (Just remember that they have the riot police with pepper spray and water cannons ready, though ... : ) )

No, it's not. Hong can be that way at his best, but for all intents and purposes, he's just a troll.

Hong virtually never starts a discussion - most of the time, he jumps into the middle of an existing one that he wasn't even involved in, and tries to derail it for his own amusement. It's none of his business whether people are going around in circles in a thread he didn't create and hasn't participated in.

The fact he's still around highlights one of the biggest problems with the moderation policy around here. That's the real issue, not Hong.

I don't care if it's lifted or not. I don't mind people arguing, even fervently, about which game they think is better. I think it's pointless, since nearly all of the argument is one person's opinion versus another and the only way to win that arguement is to say "So you say 3.5 is the best for you? I need more than 3.5. I need more than 4E too. I need variety in my roleplaying game!"

Another thing I have to mention, i've seen posted 5 or 6 times now. "We don't discuss trolls, report them" though it varied in syllables and grammer of course.

I want to ask, why?

Not to stir up the stirred up pot, but I'm just not bothered by trolls. If someone uses truly insulting or any of the -ism remarks to another poster, I think that needs stamped on. No f-bombs or insutling anyone due to race, color, creed, sex, etcetera, but I don't find the posted who posts something inflammatory or argues in circles that bad, nor simply stating "Oh, he/she/it is trolling."

In my book, it's either for cheap entertainment, in which case I weep for that level of boredom, or they really are incapable of arguing a topic. Again, i'm not insulted, I just assume I'm not likely to have a good conversation with them, maybe on just that topic, maybe on all topics. Even the blatant ones that post the really inflammatory subjects and keep them going and going, it doesn't bother me, I mean I find it laughable because how obvious those are. Truth is, the occassionally hit on a good topic, even if they just keep inputting the same thing, it might spark something else worth talking about.

I don't know Hong (I've read a few of his posts, but I guess I didn't find them trolling posts) but i've never felt the need to go report someone for arguing the same point the same way even if they started it.

If I felt that need, I'd have to find something to do about all of the real life trolls that love to talk about the most controversial things imaginable but have no intention of being swayed on them. My little brother does that sometimes, when I was younger I think I told my Dad and he said told both of us to shut up and came up with a chore for us to do.
