Fort Worth WoTC store closing

First Post
OK, so it pales in comparison to the rest of the news this week, but I just returned from the Wizards store in Fort Worth, where I found out that the store is closing shop for good. They said the lease was up and the company did not decide to re-up or to move, just close down.

Not really sure if this is an isolated case or if its the start of them killing the retailing division. I remeber reading this week that they were looking into the retail division, though I was hopeful they'd keep my store open. (Oh well 50% clearance sale tomorrw!!)

What really scares me though is,with the recent Lay-offs and now this, is Hasbro/WOTC really committed to D&D or , as everyone feared, are they just there to suck every dime they can out of Pokemeon and let the D&D license out to fallow.

I know this has been covered hundreds of time, but I still see it as a danger.

Just paranoid,

There are 2 WotC stores in the Ft. Worth area. Which one are you referring to?

There's one in Northeast Mall and one in Ridgemar Mall.

Oh, and all WotC stores have been having a 50% off sale for about a week. It doesn't have anything to do with closing, they are just trying to clean out their stock of old stuff.

Most 2e, some 3e, and lots of other RPG system (Vampire, Legend of the 5 Rings, GURPS, etc.) products are 50% off.

I got Faiths & Avatars, Demihuman Deities, and Powers & Pantheons for around $50. :D

I was at the Ridgmer store. The girl there was a bit upset, I assumed she was losing her job from the closing. I did see the 50% off, but that was only selected items. She implied that everything would be on sale Saturday, including the chairs and displays, etc.

BTW -- Where is the Northeast mall? If its staying open I'd like to have a WOTC store to feed my habit :)

This is strange. I just did a store search on the WOTC website for Dallas and Fort Worth. It doesn't list any of their stores in that area. I wasn't aware of the WOTC store in Ridgemar Mall, but have been to the one in Northeast Mall as well as one at a mall in the Dallas area -- I think it was Richland Mall. I know it was in Richland Hills or North Richland Hills.

They may be closing all of their stores in the DFW area.

There aren't any WotC stores in Dallas that I know of, and they only list the 2 I mentioned above on the WotC Retail Store Locator at wizards.com

Northeast Mall is located in Hurst. It's in north-eastern Fort Worth, where 820 and 183 meet. I was just there on Tuesday, and they made no mention of the store closing. Hopefully, they aren't. The guys there know me, and I'd hope that they would tell me if they were closing. Of course, maybe they didn't know until recently.

If it's related to a lease, I wouldn't think that the other stores are closing right now. Leases are for individual stores in a certain mall, most of the time. However, we may see the same thing happen when the Northeast Mall store's lease runs out...

Wow. I didn't even know that there *were* any WOTC stores in the DFW metroplex. Go figure. Maybe I'll drive out there this weekend & take advantage of the deals.

Or maybe I'll take a few extra minutes & just drive up to Denton. Yeah, that sounds better. :)

2 WotC Stores (for a little while, anyway), Lone Star Comics, and Talon Comics. We're so spoiled... :D

Don't forget about Generation X!

Don't forget about Generation X in Bedford. I don't work there but I do buy a lot of my DND books from them. They have a great selection!

Are there any WOTC stores in Canada, or are they just in the states? Was hoping there might be one in Vancouver somewhere.
