Found some books for 50% off, should I get them?

I am asking because that is what I am interepreting from your line of questioning. If I am wrong or misunderstaning you, sorry in advance. ;)

I don't presume to speak for Mark, but I read his questions as some pretty good decision-making questions. I doubt there's any kind of ulterior motive here.

"Are the reasons you didn't purchase them at full price no longer applicable?"

If you didn't buy them because you weren't at all interested then, well you're probably not any more interested regardless what it cost. (Although that's clearly not the case, since you're considering it.) If the only reason you didn't get them then was you didn't have the money, then that's a separate thing.

"What would you do with the money if you didn't spend it on these books? Will the books enhance the game or your gaming experience in, at least, a like proportion to how much you spend (or save you as much in proportional time as it took to earn as much money as you spend on them)?"

He's basically asking you to ask yourself how much disposable income you have, and what you want to do with it. For example, would you rather buy a gaming book at half price, or go out for dinner and a movie? It's been said on these boards many times, but the really good gaming books are dirt cheap when you consider how many hours of enjoyment you get out of them.

On a side note, being a game publisher, do you find the idea of buying used game books to be akin to "losing profits"? Hopefully, I don't sound arguementative, because I am generally curious. :)

No problem. (Chun-tzu has it, mainly, right.) I'm asking only because those are the questions I ask myself before I make a purchase. I rarely pay full price for anything, anything at all, gaming or otherwise, and I try not to buy any luxury item (game books included) unless I can justify making the purchase over retaining the money for something more practical. If I were you, I'd probably buy the one I want the most and not buy any of the others until I had read the first and used at least some of it for my game.

Thanks for the response! You know, it seems like I read too deep into some common sense questions, hehe.

Well, being the WotC Fanboy that I am, I would probably "want" to get them some time sooner or later, but my actual "need" for them may vary. When I was strictly a player, the Fiend Folio and Monster Manual 3 were something I probably wouldn't even consider. Now that I DM, I now understand the desire to "get more monsters", hehe.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I let you guys now if I get them next time I go to the FLUBS.

Well, went down to the FLUBS, found out that someone already bought the MM3 :/ and that the Fiend Folio was just $8 off. I tried to get the owner to sell the FF for half-off, but he said it just came in a week ago, although I saw it in there for over a month, meh. However, I bought Races of Stone and Complete Divine for $32. ;)

I think I'm happy and got a decent deal.
