FR: Anyone know what a "shater-ring" is exactly?

Felon

First Post
On page 111 of Lost Empires of Faerun there is a section on Netherese Artifacts, which describes some of the various magic items prominent during the age Netheril. "Shatter-rings" are mentioned as an "alternate form of wand". Since I think wands are a little too..."dainty" for many spellcasters, I am interested in possible alternatives.

I'm not familiar with the FR canon outside of the setting books. Does anyone know what a shatter-ring is exactly? Is it a ring that's held in the hand, or is a ring that goes on the finger, or something else? I can make it up on my own, obviously, but if they've actually been detailed already I'd like the benefit of that knowledge. TIA.

Uhm I think they are like "I can cast an empowered fireball from my RING!" type deal. But that's just my shrugging unknown-ness.

*Btw I'd love to see stats for the Crown of Narfell. That sounds COOL! :D*

yeah... i think they are rings with charges.

they shatter when all of the charges are expended.

so they can hold spells upto the same spell level as wands... but not rods or staffs.

Well, I’m glad that is cleared up because owing to a smudge making an “a” look like an “i” in my copy of the book I thought it was something vulgar. Those nasty Netherese…

That isn't something vulgar, that's the thing the wife is always yelling at me for leaving up. :p

You talking about the original Crown of Narfell, worn by the Nentyarchs of that realm, which was shattered by Sarshel Elethlim during the Triad Crusade and the Fiend Wars, or the reconstructed and reconsecrated Crown of Narfell that presently sits on the head of Queen-Regent Sambryl of Impiltur?
