[FR] Gold dwarf sorceror diety?

Taloras

First Post
Ok. Im about to play a gold dwarf sorceror. What diety would he worship? Mystra? or a dwarven diety? which is most likely? It doesnt list any of the dwarven dieties as being sorcerorish.

The deity doesn't have to have anything to do with magic.

Think which of the dwarven gods best suits his personality, or which god his parents might have worshipped, or who the patron of his home town is.

Make it a part of his background, rather than just "I picked the magic one."

Haela Brightaxe (Dwarven Goddess of Luck in Battle) encourages dwarves to leave the hearth and explore the world under the sun.

She's a pretty good pick for a lot of dwarf characters

Probably Moradin as he was the one to initiate the Thundering and give magic to the dwarves.
Or perhaps Dumathion (sp?) for secrets under the mountain.

I'd venture that it might depend on the character's mindset. Does he see his sorcery merely as another tool, or like a part of himself, and his being dwarven is more important? If so, then you might want to go with Haela or Dumathoin.

If he is enrapt with his magic and its more important to him than his natural dwarvishness, then it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to worship Mystra (his reason there being that since the Dwarven Pantheon has no god heavily associated with magic, he needs to find one from another pantheon who is). The latter, I feel, offers some truly great roleplaying opportunities, since it can be a very "my desires vs. my cultural heritage" thing.

Diirinka (sp?)

Where is info on this? and what is the time of Shanatar?
(unquote)

Ekh, I'm at work so this is from memory.

Shanatar was the great southern dwarven kingdom whose king ruled from the Wyrmskull Throne. Various remnants of Shanatar remain beneath Amn, Tethyr and Calimshan. The name, Calimshan, was, in part, derived from Shanatar (Calim was the name of a mighty noble djinni).

Sources on Shanatar include:

- the adventure, the Wyrmskull Throne;
- Dwarves Deep; and
- Lands of Intrigue & Empires of the Shining Sea.

Diirinka is one of the two lost derro deities. He is mentioned in Monster Mythology but also, more importantly for FR fans, in Deminhuman Deities.

Anyway, that's the short "from memory" version. If you want more info, please post again and I'll go through the books this weekend.

Cheers
NPP

Diirinka is also a very evil deity. If your dwarven character is good, he shouldn't seriously consider worshipping him. In fact, Demihuman Deities mentions that the other dwarven gods do not consider him (or his brother) part of their pantheon in any sense. To them, he isn't a dwarf god, he's some sort of god-thing.
