[FR] Halaster is NOT a Chosen.

Ah, but from what I can remember, the power output of a turbo laser is the equivalent of what a common navigational shield could completely absorb, and when considering the power of the deathstar's primary cannon, they wouldn't even get past a starship's (let alone a romulan warbird's!) primary shields! I remember an episode where...

Don't give me that! It blows up planets.

PLANETS!

...man, I'm lame. :o

:D

Yes, yes you are, but then aren't we all?

I was the one who asked Ed during the seminar if Elminster had any knowledge he could share about Halastur's year and a half of semi-lucidity. "Elminster's" response was that he has spoken to Halastur and he seemed quite lucid, and that he was not a chosen but, had made his own peace with Mystra, what that meant he could elaborate, only that Halastur was off performing his part of the deal.

ArthurQ - I was the guy sitting in the same row as Rich Baker, did you notice how he couldn't sit still?

Wrong! Check a Star Wars site sometime. The turbo-laser is actually not a laser!

True, but I would lay bets that the Death Star would beat them both, due to the lack of snub fighters.

A Dyson Sphere would eat your punny Death Star whole :D

Back on topic, Halaster doesn't have the Chosen template in the FRCS and I don't recall him be named one in any other game books either (not that that means much). [/B]

I didn't get that impression from Elminster in Hell course it's not his best work.

Ed's deal with TSR, inherited by Wizards, specifies that what he says about the Realms will be considered gospel by the company unless they choose to specifically override it. Even apart from that, no source ever said Halaster was a Chosen of Mystra, and Ed is unlikely to publicly distribute Realmslore that has a chance of contradiction from WotC. (And apart from that, speaking personally, I'd take what Ed said even if the company published something else, just as Gygax is still the authority on his own world.)

Ed's certainly still the authority on the Realms, and he still actively promotes himself as its sage.

As to Halaster, I've never seen anywhere that it asserted he was a Chosen, and it makes sense that he's not. I can't believe Mystra's cut him a deal that is going to restore him to sanity or freedom, but I get the feeling that he is more in control of the situation than she is. After all, there have been plenty of times where she has been weak, and Halaster could have negotiated himself a pretty sweet deal during those times, being as powerful as he is.

Not if it jumps to hyperspace first!

And it will!

Well I never read it so it influences me not at all. Was he actually referred to as a chosen of Mystra? I have to say the fact that he doesn't have the CoM template in the FRCS is damning evidence against him, just from reading through the FRCS and flipping through FaP I've seen numerous chosen of assorted gods that have no stat template anywhere. Why would they do that but not label Halaster of one that actually is detailed?

The argument for him becoming a chosen stems from the fact that Elminster in Hell takes place after Sheildmeet and the date the FRCS represents.

May people thoght that due to the scene in the novel, Hal became chosen.
This obviously is not the case.

O.k. so it would have happened during the novel as opposed to being implied that he already was a chosen (what I thought everyone meant).
