[FR help] city of Shade it's citizens and templates

After reading the return of the Archwizards trilogy and the Realms of Shadow anthology of short stories I became interested in playing a Shade. This was before the Races of Faerun. In the novels is says many times that that not all citizens of Shade are Shades. So after looking at the Manual of the Planes and seeing the Shadow template I thought that the base citizens would have the Shadow template, having been infused with the elements of the planes over the thousands of years that they have inhabited the planes of shadow. Shades are raised up by Telmont (sp?.

My group had ruled tht the Shadow template was an Ecl of +2. I'd like to find out if that is accurate.

Now if my assumtions are correct about both template then do the benefits stack or would the Shade Template supercede the Shadow template?

Alos what issue of Dragon had the "alternate summining rules"?

I had the very same question about the shadow template ecl,so I looked at the errata and asked sean k reynolds at his board and learned from both sources that it is a 2-5 depending on the dm.But definitely 2-5 range....we went with 2 also.Don't know for sure about the shade and shadow templates stacking, but my impulse is to go with the shade template superceding the shadow template.Hope that helps a little.

I'm not sure I understand your question but If I were to create a Shade PC I'd go with the template in Races of Faerun. There was an earlier write up in the FRCS book but that's a little dated. I would not use the template in the Manual of the Planes unless I'm looking to add it to a creature as opposed to a humanoid but that's just me.

The shade template seems a bit more powerful and that is a +4 so i don't think that it can be higher than that in my opinion. So 2-3 seems right but i would like to get a firm answer. Like that's going to happen.

Did you read any of the Return of the archwizards trilogy? I'm guessing no. In the books the city of shade had been nmoved to the plane of shadow thousands of years ago. The books say muliple times that all shades are from Shade but not all people from Shade are shades. So after reading the template in manual of the planes it seems like that it would fit perfectly for the regular citizens.

Shades are those specially raised up by High Prince Talemont.

Correct, man troy denning sure knows how to write a humdinger....look at the errata for the template it is errata'd to 2-5 ,also sean k reynolds could verify if that is what you are looking for at his website seankreynolds.com.
Have you read Dissolution or any of those and if you have are they good?I have been wanting to get them ,but don't want to be dissaponted.
