FR history and timeline

Legend
i was just paging through the FRCS and stopped to reread the history and timeline sections when it suddenly struck me: though i understand the space limitations of such a book, these brief sections leave much unanswered. just as one example, humans are one of the 5 creator races, though events by humans significant enough to make the timeline don't truly begin more than 3 or 4 thousand years before present campaign time, yet the elves (not a creator race as they entered toril from another plane) have been impacting the world for 20,000 years!

in any event, besides the novels (the few attempts i've made have disappointed me greatly) are there any good resources (particularly online) that go into greater depth about the history of these fascinating realms?

any help is greatly appreciated.

That struck me as odd, too. The best I can think of is that the humans were placed on toril in an early stone-age state, and were meant to develop normally. The elves and other races came in, and with an already well-developed culture, took over and considered humans beneath their notice. This slowed down advancement to a crawl, and it wasn't until the crown wars and the discovery of the nether scrolls that humans managed to really shine.

You can read the Old Savage Frontier Book, or the 2e The North.

Didn't you just love the beef of the old edition?

I took it as a sort of Atlantis thing. Once upon a time humans here all big and mighty and what-not. They they blew themselves up and back to the pre-stone-age, or something to that effect (that seems to be a reoccuring theme in the Realms). And humans are only now crawling back out of the hole.

George Krashos is a well know and respected frequent poster on Realms-L and is generally acknowledged to the long time Realms-L list locals as one of the Realms historians. George has done considerable collaborative work with Ed Greenwood, Steven Schend and Eric Boyd - all three who should be no strangers to anyone familar with the Realms.

George recently completed a very indepth history of the 'The North' and made it available for download, hosted by Robert Kulty, another long time Realms-L listmember.

The download can be accessed at

I think anyone interested in history of the Realms would be interested in this as it is very detailed and goes back quite aways into the past.

thanks folks! george krashos' timeline looks particularly useful (thanks blackmoria). any other resources that treat other areas of the realms as deeply as the aforementioned timeline does?
