FR Sages, is there any place in Faerun for a gothic realm?

It's a long story. Spoilers follow:
In short, Manshoon is *not* a vampire. However, there is a stasis clone of Manshoon's who was infected with vampirism during stasis and woke prematurely to find himself in thrall to the Night King of Westgate, the head of that city's thieves' guild, the Night Masks. Manshoon arranged for his master to be destroyed, thus making himself the master vampire, and assumed leadership of the Night Masks. Further details can be found in the 2e Cloak and Dagger supplement and the 3e Lords of Darkness book.

I always thought Veldorn would make a good place for a Ravenloft type setting. It's way in the southeast of the continent and there's not much written about it. I think there's a couple of paragraphs in the Shining South book. Because there isn't much written about it, that leaves it wide open to DMs ;)

This is what Ed Greenwood had to say about the country:

"Yes, those tales your mother told you were true: There is a land of monsters, ruled by monsters, and this is it. They eat caravans whole along the Trade Way, love to raid the camps of outlanders who will all be too dead to hit back, and dream of ruling all Faerûn. Avoid the place or be eaten, as the old maps say."

I think the country is still united under Saed, the vampire lord of Vaelen.

The only drawback is the climate. Veldorn is probably a little more temperate and warm than Barovia. However, Veldorn does have the Giant's Belt, Curna and Thrulaliel Mountains nearby. One could argue that there is some type of clime anomaly that makes the land colder. After all this is fantasy -- e.g. Faerun has a desert in the northwest [magically created by the Phaerimm] where once fertile ground stood.

There are a few more details in the 2e FR16 Shining South (sorry for my shorthanding, Felon!), as well as the city map for Vaelen.

Heh. Not just a "little" more temperate - it's subtropical!
