free 4E?

What about Iron Heroes?

IIRC, there's quite a bit of OGC in there, and it's possible that some of it was "ported" into 4E by Mearls.

So, anyone know of a project to recreate 4E without copyright? (Preferably using the OGL)

If done quickly enough, such a project could actually take flight.
To answer my own question:

http://4esque.pbwiki.com/

Its invite only. when you go to it, just request writer access and try to use your enworld name so i know who it is. I work from home, so i'm online alot. I will keep gmail open.

However, you can't make anonymous edits there. Heck, you can't even follow the progress anonymously! Compared to Wikipedia, I guess I feel that is somewhat strange... but good luck to Ruis and team anyway.

Now, that is one answer... are there any other efforts? :-)

This is a long-winded reply that prob doesn't even need to be, but...

I hope that if there are actually other efforts going on, that they merge themselves with the current effort at http://4esque.pbwiki.com/

It should only be a matter of copy & paste on the wiki and since the end goal is to have some type of standardized OGL replacement for 4E, having multiple projects going might be counter productive. If/when conflicts occur, then perhaps there could be some kind of fork, but I don't think there is any need for that since this replacement will be a minimal set of rules mechanics and not much more.

Also, lets get the system completed and then can worry if there are any nuances that need changing.

Agreed, it is better to focus the effort at this point since we are all doing the same thing. AND, anonymous editing might work for Wikipedia where there are thousands of editors - a small Wiki like ours would get wrecked by a spambot should it make its way there. So registration is an unfortunate necessity at this stage.
