Free hosting for RPG sites?

Hi,

Due to my ex-web-landlord running out of money, I've been evicted and I am looking for a new home.

Are there any sites offering free (which also means ad-free) web hosting for Gaming/RPG/Development community sites?

I think RPGHost used to do this, but for the life of me, I can't find any kind of reference to this on their site. I've heard that they headed the "commercial" way.

I contacted DFXWebs, but I have received no response.

I have a preference for Linux-based hosts, but Windows will do just fine.

Help?

Ok, this is not "free" but ripplehost.com is 10/year and godaddy.com is 8/year for a domain name. Ripplehost gets you mySQL/PHP/CGI, 100 mb, 1 GIG transfer..everything a little website needs to grow big and strong. Honestly, to find free web hosting now adays is going to be hard. One other solution is most ISPs will let you host, but you are usually looking at 10 MB or less and no PHP or CGI.

I'm not sure if this would be what you're really looking for or not, but Brinkster.com has free web hosting without ads, although if you have a domain name you have to pay for hosting it. It's a little difficult to find the free hosting option (obviously they want you to buy their upgraded packages), but it's still there. They have some inexpensive web hosting, too, should you want to have more services, like email.

That'll be why it's hard to find free web-hosting! :D

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Hmmm, Brinkster looks more like a scam to get your email address... I never got my registration key (yes, I typed in my email address correctly).

I'll add Doteasy to the list as well. You can get 20 MB space/1 GB bandwidth, ad-free, for free. More space/bandwidth/services are available at various prices.

Unfortunately, they also ask that you transfer a domain name to them or buy one from them.

Hmmm, I may have to ask a friend if he has a little space for me...
