Free online or offline HTML resources for campaign management

Li Shenron

Legend
Hello,

I am looking for some free resources to easily create and edit simple HTML hyper-linked pages, to use as a repository for D&D campaign material. Best would be to have something hosted on the web, so that all players can just connect anytime from anywhere, and even upload their own characters.

Years ago we were using Wikispaces, where the DM put all the campaign house rules as well as plenty of information about the fantasy settings being used, player characters, and chronicles of played adventures, but apparently this website is not free anymore nowadays.

It doesn't have to be anything specific for gaming... basically it's just for creating pages and links between them, although having some menus would be handy.

Any suggestion?

We have a campaign manager here on EN World, which allows you to add members, hold discussions, create wiki pages, host files, list links, keep a campaign journal, and store images and maps. It's all part of the Communities functionality:

Yes thanks Morrus I was aware of that, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me... I am using it already for a PbP campaign and I was never able to create wiki pages, only discussion threads. Besides, I am afraid that even if it worked I am not sure it would comfortably hold the material for an entire fantasy setting like wikispaces used to...

Google Sites (aka sites.google.com)

I use it for hosting articles I write about technical things, more a repository of notes for myself.

Obsidianportal.com? But you might run into the same problems that you had at ENworld's communities. Whatever they were.

That looks great, but does it really have so many campaigns??? More than 30000 existing D&D campaigns??? :D

Just one question, since you are also using the site for your Modos RPG: I can see that A LOT of the campaigns there freely use artwork that surely is copyrighted. Is it really allowed to just put on your campaign pages whatever picture you find on the web? How about posting conversions of material from published settings?

Gray area, no doubt. Anything that's copyrighted pretty much grants personal use only. Is your blog a personal use? Yes and no. I think copyright also says that non-personal reproduction is prohibited. Are you really reproducing it if it's already found on the web somewhere?

I'm not a lawyer. But I know that lawyers go after deep pockets. If you're not making phat billz off your website - odds are you don't have to worry about it.
