Free PDF's for the Gencon Deprived

Two years ago GenCon was in July - huzzah! - I went for all four days and had a blast. I even ran a few games.

Last year they moved it back to August. Don't they know high school football in Illinois starts in August! So last year I waited for the impending collapse of the Con and a move back to July when the hordes and hordes of highschool football players and their coaches did not attend.

Yeah...ummmm... it didn't happen. Apparently attendance went UP last year.

Sadly, I may not make another GenCon until I retire from teaching and coaching.

BTW Arwink, are you folks going to put out a lost books compilation?

While I'm sure it will happen eventually, there's no immediate plans to do so. Most of the Lost Books continue to sell fairly well on their own, and my attention is focused on getting new products out (and finishing my thesis by February/March of next year). I'd probably say that February next year would be the earliest to expect such a thing, and that's going to depend on a lot of outside factors. I do know that when I eventually put a compilation together, I'll set it up so customers can pick up a POD version if they wish.

There is some thought being put into the concept of running a Lost Books subscription next year, similar to those used by companies like Adamant and Ronin Arts, but that wont happen unless I'm relatively sure that I can maintain the series for another 14 or so releases.

Very cool little promo. I dont do much D&D these days or I would be all over this! I will state that I don't go to Gencon because I dont want to go by myself and most of my pals go to Quakecon in Dallas (which is the weekend before Gencon) so their wives wont let em go to Gencon too!

Why am I not at GenCon? Its a simple fact that when you have no money, no car, and are just starting a new job right when GenCon is happening, its a bit hard to go. Yep. I started my new job today. :/ At least ill have money soon...just not soon enough. Maybe then i can afford Stormwrack.

Why am I not a Gen Con? Three reasons:

1. It's expensive--not that I couldn't afford it, but I'd rather spend my gaming dollars efficiently and smaller cons offer more gaming for the dollar.

2. It's near the end of the month right now and I'm working 10-11 hour days--not a time to take time off (not that contractors get time off per se)

3. When I would have had to sign up and buy the tickets, I was facing the prospect of downsizing without knowing where my next job would be.

So, that about sums it up. If I had unlimited time and money, and an infinitely flexible job, I'd go to Gen Con. Since time and money are both limited for me, I prefer to do other things.

Why am I not at Gen Con?

A convoluted set of events that begin with an angry yeti in the backwoods of Minnesota and ends with a beer truck full of bleach and the guy who played Eddie Haskell from Leave it to Beaver.

*shudder* Those poor nuns...

Wow, Arwink. Thanks.

The reason I am not at GenCon is because I am a college sophomore, with all that entails. Poor, unemployed, without a car. Not nearly as exciting, exotic or woeful as other people's reasons, but reason enough to keep me in California.

Demiurge out.

I am not at Gencon because of lack of money. I am disabled and I try and live on social security :\ Though I play a dollar in the lottery every week hoping my ship will come in. :)

I have never been to Gencon but before I became disabled I used to go the Worldcon and Mediawest every year. I really miss cons. :(

This is very nice of you.

Wish I had a sob story, but fact is, I went years ago and just wanted to strangle all the people in my way by the end of the second day. Impatient people do not interact well with crowds.

My boss, on the other hand, Gencon would have been a nice vacation for him. After all, he works three jobs; web design and computer programming freelancer by day, RPG writer and publisher by night, and caregiver for a crippled parent while he does the RPG gig and the rest of his non-day-job time as well. But he's been quite prejudiciously banned from these boards, so he can't even get the free swag offered by Ronin Arts or Clockwork Golem. And people wonder why he seems so agitated all the time...

However, anyone wanting free swag from Alternate Realities Publications can get a free book (not a bundle product) by sending us an email listing what product you want, along with your ENWorld forums nick. You can send the email via our contact page. Just make sure you select "Prize Claim" for the subject line.

On top of that, we've discounted all of our individual products to a maximum of $2.00, so anything else you were interested in you can snatch up on the cheap, without worrying if there will be any leftover copies we want to dispose of fast while packing up a booth for the trip home. You can access that stuff Here.

Enjoy!

Hey D_Sinclair, I'm happy to take your post as Dana's proxy given his inability to post here. If either of you want one of the CGW PDF's on offer as part of the giveaway, just e-mail me with your choices and let me know which e-mail address to send them to :)
