Free Template Available from Silverthorne Games!

I know what you mean :) It's hard enough getting the *paid* artists to deliver. We've been quite fortunate in that regard, however, as most of the artists we've selected have not only been talented, but also very professional in their work ethic ::crosses fingers::

Having said that, BoT will be a relatively graphics-free product (which is good for printers). There may be a "deluxe" edition in the offing with extra goodies and some art, though. But I didn't say that ;)

I am indeed available at that email address. Please send away. We love getting friendly emails! :)

Cheers!

The Book of Templates will be available *initially* as PDF only. There have been rumblings amongst the staff here to make a print version and invade FLGS across the merry old US of A (and Canada, too, maybe!) So, there will probably be a print version sometime in the future (hopefully before Gen Con next year). But, we'll need to leave print plans in the "hands of fate" for a bit and see how it goes ;)

Just a little note to say that our second free preview template, the iron-kin, is now available on the "Free Stuff" page of our website. Download it and let us know what you think. The full Book of Templates product will be available very soon! We're doing the final edits now.

There is also a "hidden" art page on our site, featuring some of the interior art for the upcoming Races of Evernor (Part II) product, for those who are into purty pictures ;) It takes a little effort to find, but the pictures are nice (Hint: there's a link to it on the main Silverthorne page).

Cheers, all!

These are great, but one small thing. Could you please put the ECL of the creatures? To those who create them, they obviously playtest them, and it shouldn't be too difficult to assign fair ECL adjustments. Makes life easy for a DM who lets players add templates to his player's characters.

Thanks!
Chris

Glad you like them :)

As far as supplying a level adjustment (ECL in WotC-speak), the templates were really designed from the perspective of creating challenges for PCs rather than enhancements to their abilities. That being said, we can always provide a free download with suggested ECLs - at least for the templates that could feasibly be used for characters. Keep in mind, however, that they might *seriously* unbalance a campaign.

Thanks for the feedback, though.

Cheers!

Ah, but providing an ECL is what is supposed to balance the creatures out. For example, WotC has a Nymph as ECL 12 (in Dragon and upcoming Savage Species)... As long as she's hanging around 12th level characters, it's not unbalancing... Sure, all ECLs need tweaking depending on the campaign but it's good to have something to start with.

Thanks

ECLs are not in the SRD. They really cannot include them. Besides, I don't see how Templates can have ECLs. Most templates have CRs like "if base critter is CR 4 or less, leave it the same; if the base critter is CR 5-8, increase CR by 1; otherwise increase CR by 2. So wouldn't the ECL of the critter also depend on the CR of the underlying critter?

And ECLs do not balance creatures. CRs balance creatures. ECLs are supposed to balance characters. This is not the same balance.
