Sounds like Wing Commander: Privateer..The only problem I've heard is that it is mouse only..no joystick.

Gariig

I think it IS Wing Commander: Privateer, but they lost the Wing Commander license and had to rebrand the game.

I thought it was the update to Starlancer...

I'm probably only confused. Starlancer and Freelancer seem to be intimately related, and Digital Anvil is Chris Roberts' company, but Chris Roberts' isn't there anymore, and Digital Anvil is a Microsoft property.

Plus "Freelancer" has been bandied about for about 6 years now as Roberts' Ultimate Space Sim, so who knows.

Maybe the *Lancer games were never meant to be anything more than Wing Commander clones. However, if Roberts had stayed on at Origin, they'd probably have the Wing Commander name attached.

Freelancer takes place 800 years after Starlancer.

Starlancer was developed by Erin Roberts, Chris' brother. But I don't think StarLancer was a Digital Anvil game, since it was released by MS -- what, a year before MS acquired DA?

It was, the games were always supposed to be published by MS (who had some kind of stake in the company I believe). Problem is FL was taking so long to develop that DA ran into money problems (likely combined with SL not do so great). This led o MS eventually buy out DA and Chris leaving.

Also FL is WC Privateer without the SCS combat and is all about the trading.

Goodsport you wanted opinions so, Gamespot has had two recent articles with hands on impressions (one SP and one MP), both have been positive. So keep your eye on it rather than forgetting about, but it's not enough to rush out and reserve it yet.

p.s. typing with one hand takes a lot than typing with two.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Would I be able to enjoy Freelancer even if I've never played Starlancer?

Don't see why not, they're set in the same universe beyond that I don't think they'll have much to do with each other (I'd say even less than WC1-5 and WC Prophecy had in common).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Thanks for the info, everyone! :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Incidentally, the full retail version of the game hits store shelves tomorrow.
