[Freelancers] The Good Publishers Thread

Blue Devil Games stands out in my mind.

I have nothing but praise for the good folks at Fiery Dragon.

And Rich Thomas (at White Wolf) too.

In order in which I worked with them:

• Dire Kobold, though they seem to have dropped out of sight.
• Vanishing Goblin, definitely. Andrew's a classy guy all the way.
• Adamant Entertainment. Gareth's great. A joy to work with.

Dealing with Matt at Mongoose was very easy. We dealt with everything via e-mail, and when there was a calculation error on my payment, I pointed it out to him and it was fixed the very next day. Very cool person to work with.

Louis J Porter and Ronin Arts also paid me on time.

On a personal note, all three companies were also great to work with.

Hmmm

Well, there is clearly going to be some variation in people's experiences. I already see 2 publishers listed here that I have had bad experiences with, and one more that I know has treated a few other people unfairly. I don't know how much help a thread like this is really going to be.

In any case, it should be obvious that I love working with Necromancer Games and do so almost exclusively lately.

I also love helping out on projects for Dark Quest Games. Neal Levin is a great guy and easy to work with.

The SSS/WW guys are cool and I would have no problem working them (basically, for some of the Necro projects I deal with these guys and I think they are great), and there are some others that I'd have no problems working with. Obviously, WotC and Paizo, although large, have a reputation for treating writers fairly.

I want to echo Patrick's statements about Dark Quest. Neal is one of the best publishers I've worked with in this business. I also give high marks to Bastion Press, Green Ronin, and Human Head.

I think it's very helpful. I'm not assuming that just because a name appears on this list, that the publisher has never done anything wrong, but I've noticed a number of names coming up repeatedly, and figure that those have good odds of a good experience.

I've only dealt with 2 companies: Code Monkey Publishing and RPG Objects. I like working with both and have had no problems with either of them.
