So I got mutants & masterminds: worlds of freedom, and i'm flipping through it, and on page 110 I see this HUGELY detailed map of freeport. Last I heard about freeport, my mind's view of it was, "it's like tortuga [from PoTC], but a little bigger, and with cultists". Seems like I was a little off....

Green ronin's website says the map is from 'the pirates guide to freeport', so I'll probably be buying it at some point. I may also buy the large poster map.

What other books would you suggest for using the city itself as a campaign setting?

What books should I stay away from?

What other books [even by other companies] have you used with great success alongside freeport stuff?

EDIT: I will be using this with either 4E or 3.x rules, probably 4E very soon.

What rule set do you like? THere is Freeport books for different game systems so if you happen to like one of those game systems then get that book.

Those are, of course, meant to be used in conjunction with The Pirate's Guide to Freeport.

Yes, indeed you are correct. Right from the Pirate's Guide To Freeport product page:

Freeport is Green Ronin's signature city setting and has been home to thousands of RPG campaigns since its launch in 2000. Classic fantasy elements, cruel-hearted pirates, and Lovecraftian horror come together in the rum-fueled metropolis known as the City of Adventure. Now a new era is beginning. The Pirate's Guide to Freeport is the definitive new sourcebook for the City of Adventure, set 5 years after the events of the original Freeport Trilogy. This is a pure setting book, focusing entirely on the people, places, politics, and perils of Freeport and containing no game statistics of any kind. The Pirate's Guide to Freeport can thus be used with any fantasy RPG, and Green Ronin will be providing companion products for popular systems like True20 and d20. The City of Adventure is back and more dangerous than ever!

I favor 4E, followed by 3.x. Since there is no 4E freeport, i'm primarily interested in what other posters think are 'good books' for running freeport with the 3.x ruleset.

As far as I know, there is a freeport companion for D20, True20, and Savage Worlds, and all the other freeport books are for D20, right?

I read in another thread that Green Ronin has licensed out to another company to do a 4E Freeport Companion. I don't know if there's any truth to it though, but I'd love for it to happen!

It is being worked XRP even raided my gaming library to help aid them. :D

If you wanted to start out running 4e Freeport, but needed some extra pirate-y goodness, I think Scarrport is a pretty good product to pick up.

I plan on getting the companion too, but Scarrport is out now.
