Fresh meat seeking dnd pbem

if you're looking for a pro player, than i'm not your man. You can stop reading here.... Seriously, stop reading... go away already, i'm not what you're looking for. Fine, read on, maybe comic relief for your deprived entertainment hour.

many years ago (8?) 2 friends bought the books to 2.0 for AD&D, and so we staired at the pages, frustrated that we didn't know how to read. So after having people read it to us, we attempted to play a few sessions. Tried a few other games too (Vampire, Mage, Pixie, Ghost...) DnD seemed more appealing, but we never got it rolling. (lack of support, financially the DM broke all our chairs, got too costly... fat ass...)

I'm interested in trying to reassociate myself to the game, but my resources are limited to a monster manual, room mate may have others but it be 2.0. If anyones interested in having a new player that knows little about the game, but willing to learn, i'd be more than interested in hearing from people.

I'm 20, male, living in texas as of now (Previously Pennsylvania). Tried this once before, but DM faded out? Missing In Action: July 2004. Suspect: Sylvester Stalone movies

I've had character ideas, and i'll run all one (1) of them acrost.
-Human, monk.
-Alignment: I'll be more or less morally good. A wild card, maybe.
-I chose a monk as a basis of style. Morally, i'm not going to walk down the street with a sword killing mail men or dogs because they looked at me wrong and expect sweet loot, why would I do it in a game? And why would that mail man and dog both be equiped with duel wielding scimitars and giant axes?? I want my character to be an unarmed combatant, and if it gets a little out of control he'll maybe have a knife or two to help when it's more for a life situation. I wear boots in real life, and if I had the choice, I don't see why i'd walk the streets or go to work with a heavy suit of armor. So again, seeing myself walking around with a sluggiest suit doesn't seem reasonable for Me. Protect the dog, give it a helmet...

Again, I basicly only know 2.0, if there's another kit that fits as a better description than a monk, i'm willing to be flexible. My decisions are basicly decided on what I would probably do. Because 9 out of 10 forums will tell you a basic class, fighter specificly, is easiest to role play, I took one step farther. And role playing what I would do is also said to make it go smoother till you gain a feel for the game. Don't think references are needed... 10 forum you might be asking yourself? 404.

I'll check in daily, maybe hourly due to free time for lack of extra activities sides from work. Hope to hear from people, feedback, or a discussion about your favorite dog.

Go to the wizards of the coast web page and read the SRD. which are basically the 3.5 ed rules.

I doubt you will get many responses your post don't really sounds serious.

12 years old and you didn't know how to read? I started at 10-12 and almost didn't know a word of english. I wanted to play so bad that I took an english dictionary and learned. A few weeks later I was DMing a game.

I would offer you a alternate place in one of my game but looking at your post and handle containing the word troll I wonder.

I will stop, wouldn't want to feed you to much.

I apologize in advance, and to Darkmaster. My usually witty one line comments are basicly just a sarcastic notion to joking around. Due to being on a texted based situation, sarcasm can be difficult for many to catch. It's why I may often start the first paragraph with with a humourous notion or remark, hoping that it makes it easier to gather from thereon. To clear up that one statement, I've known how to read and write like the average child. I feel my grasp on the english language is excellent, and I use dictionary's constantly to double check anything I am concerned that I may have incorrectly spelled. No ones perfect, I don't catch everything, but I correct myself over allowing a program correct it for me automaticly.

As for seriouseness, i've attempted numerous times to attempt to finding people that are understanding to a person that's new to this area of gaming and role playing. Because of a limited issue dealing with not being able to freely socialize with people due to my job hours, my some-what red neck hickish town that i'm afraid of having them role-play as an inbreeded half elf(sarcasm).

As for my SN, I feel it's somewhat original. Being a background info, for 10 years I have had a nickname to my close friends: Troll... Ancient cultures interest me, such as Greek, Roman, Egyptians, Norse... The Aztec. Since the only piece of culture I own at the time was an aztec calender, and the need for SN's for other forums, e-mail, ect... I adopted that name.

If nothing else becomes of this thread of mine, we can still discuss about puppy's. Specificly, I would like to hear peoples background on how they came up with SN's, especially Darkmaster where he might think mines corny, I feel mutual to his. Not to be a direct attack, just doesn't sound any better than the peg my name stands on.

Assuming due to the lack of replys that this forum is more for the experienced crowed in gaming. Feels alot like Car insurance, can't get a group without the experience, can't get the experience without the group. I'll take one more swing around to on this thread by another bump, than I suppose it's up in the air as a missing in action post lost in pages of threads.

If you're really interested in learning to play 3rd ed, the SRD is the place to start. it's the free version of the new rules. For better or worse, almost no-one plays 2e or AD&D since the 3rd ed came out.
If it were me, I would start with the 3rd ed SRD and then move on to 3.5 because, at least from what i've seen, 3.5 build on 3.0 and somwhat "assumes" that you've read 3.0 and goes with "here's what's changed" whereas 3.0 says "welcome to a new world".
If you're interested in a Play-By-Post, I am still recruiting for My game, Clod Truths. I would be more than happy to consider a character by ANYONE who want to play, no matter what their experience level.
That being said, I cannot and will not guarantee that your character would be chosen to get into the game...

Been reading the SRD for 3.0, seems fairly easy to understand all of what i've read so far. Read mostly the braod of the game, not so much the specifics like psy classes, or all the skills. Did read the classes, rather upset that the only "hand to hand" combatant is a monk, but limited to a alignment that just doesn't sound like it cut it for my taste. Is there any other free information guides like this SRD for outside classes that are allowed so that i'm not reading up on "The dark hoobyjubby's" or what not classes that DM's are going to point and laugh at me for even recomending?
