Friday Night post-ENnies

I like Lukeski and would personally like to see him at the ENnies, but wasn't there some backlash when he performed at the Origins Awards or some other presentation a few years ago?

That seemed mainlt to be becasue he went on right after they had an acknowledgment of some deaths of industry people. And it was only a few people who didn't know who or what he was that complained, many people especially newer industry people liked it.

I'm remembering the same thing :\

I think from a "serious" standpoint (and I'm all for not taking ourselves too seriously), I'm going to have to vote for having a DJ after the awards. The music will keept he party atmosphere up a bit more than his performance would, as far as the mixing, mingling, and schmoozing among the industry types goes.

Agreed.

Honestly, I'm sure he's a fine Song Satirist, but the "event" of the evening should be the awards, not a comedy act following them (and that, requiring more attention than a DJ, will hamper the socializing/networking)

not to be taken seriously

i've been pimpin' for the judges to go to the gig in theme.

i'm thinking Village People or Spamalot.

Great point.

Not to add more work to his plate, but wasn't Hellhound a DJ for a while? Could he spin some 80s/90s industrial dance afterwards.

Right now the way my mind is working is that we try and get Luke in before during cocktails or for an intermission, and have a DJ afterwards. If I can get Justin Achilli to DJ, I will, otherwise Hound's my fallback position.

I think that might be unrealistic. Last year we started at 9:15 and didn't dawdle, and we finished right at 11pm. If this year is like last year, people will spend the pre-ceremony chatting and hob-nobbing, and there just isn't any time for an intermission. Folks are there to see if they won awards, and I really believe that changing pace during an intermission is a problematic idea.

Afterwards would be better, I think, if you really want him to perform.

Glad to see the thread has migrated towards my position without me having to articulate it fully. Ultimately, people will become reliable attendees at the event if it runs smoothly, not because celebrity, major or minor is attached to it. That's why I remain a strong partisan for PirateCat keeping the MC's role and for performances to be either extremely short or very unobtrusive. The most prized skill at an awards ceremony is the ability to shut up and move on to the next thing.
