friendly fire?

I'm sure this may well have been settled way back with the initial release of 4e but... I can't find any clear statement concerning friendly fire in the game rules. If someone can point me to the page reference I would be grateful.

I've only seen implied references that seem to indicate friend fire is on by default, with feats and powers providing exceptions to the rule.

No friend fire seems inline with the 4E mentality. But scant evidence seems to contradict this. Can anyone help me out?

thanks!

If the power says it targets a creature, it can harm both enemies and allies.

If it targets enemies, it can't harm your allies.

So, yes, there are plenty of powers that can hurt your party (as well as some that can't).

The relevant reference is on page 57 of the PHB under "Target."

Yep, what Fan said.

"Targets all allies in burst" hits only your friends.

"Targets all enemies in burst" hits only your enemies, missing your friends.

"Targets all creatures in burst" hits everybody, friend or foe.

There are a couple of feats you can use (War Wizardry, Coordinated Blast, etc) and class features (is it "Eye of the Storm"?) to minimize the effects on your friends and even to gain some "oomph" from having a friend in the area of effect.
