Ahh, I must have missed that they were using Bell's machine to actually travel. I thought Bell's machine was working in concert with Olivia. That makes more sense.

I'm not sure how much of it was mention back then, honestly I don't remember the end of last season that well, but it has been mentioned in the past few episodes.
