I want to see some love given to Gleep Wurp the Eyebiter.

...just kidding, I don't, really, I don't.

Too late! I think Gleep Wurp is STUPENDOUS! :D

Okay, okay - I apologize for the outburst. Fungus can be a little impulsive from time to time....

Khellek, Auric, and Tirra are definitely from the comic book back cover ads drawn by Bill Willingham. I have photocopies at work, but don't have any good scans. Google is not helpful in this regard either.

I'll see about scanning and posting the ones I have on my blog, but it will have to wait until I get back to Seattle from MACE in North Carolina.

Back in the day, Dragon magazine used to have a section where readers sent in their letters- questions, stories, whatnot. One reader sent a letter imploring Dragon to create some more challenges for him, as his uber-level wizard named Waldorf had destroyed all the villains Dungeons & Dragons (I seem to recall him being tied specifically to Greyhawk- either having destroyed it or taking it over).

Well, that set off a chain of letter writing in which people sent in their uber-characters, trying to outpower Waldorf, whose creator responded in kind. It went on for several issues before the Dragon staff finally put an end to it. It was pretty funny, especially not knowing who was really being serious or not.

Dangit- now you're going to make me go dig out all those Dragon issues to remind me exactly what went on.
Those were fun times in Dragon. :)

If you find all the issues, would you mind posting the numbers for the community? :)

Funny thing is, Gleep was around before the Eyebite spell was published, IIRC. I always had this mental image of a barroom brawling wizard who'd pin people to the ground and sink his teeth into their eyeballs! :p

According to this index he appeared in Dragon #s 137, 149, 173, and 177. The only one I don't own is 149, but I can confirm his appearance in the other three.

Sadly, Waldorf and his keep is destroyed by a kamikaze spelljamming vessel piloted by nilbogs in #177. :(

Are those the same comic ads that I was mentioning? The ones with the elf, wizard, fighter, and thief? Or different ads? If so, do you have the complete series? I really want to read those again... :)

The Silver Princess, her Silver Warrior (who may or may not have been the peddler in the adventures intro) and D'hemis from Palace of the Silver Princess

Thanks, I'll look at my pdfs from the Dragon Archive!

Ah, yes, a fitting end for ole Waldorf.

Yesorkh

Yesorkh, the evil witchypoo/ice demon/baboon, from "Dark Clouds Gather", first edition module from way back when I was a lad. I DMed that one and my group stuffed it up and let her loose on the world. I've lost my notes from then (1980s sometime) but in my campaign world she is still remembered as the legendary evil witch monster from the past who destroyed a kingdom . .

Lassiviren the Dark is acutally "updated" to 3.5, complete with stats. (Human Rog4/Ftr4/Asn7 hp 44* CR15 - in this version he has a Sword of life stealing and a +1 defending short sword ) You can find all the information in Dungeon 114, a great article by Robert J. Schwalb.

*The article explains his low hp.
