Vitrification
Transmutation [Earth]
Level: Clr 6, Sor/Wiz 6
Cating Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target: One living creature
Duration: Instataneous
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

The target of this spell turns into glass, as if it were a mindless, inert statue (the targets posessions do not transform). Should the glass get broken or damaged the target has similar deformities if ever returned to its original state.

The target is not dead (its soul doesn't pass on), but when viewed with spells that detect life, it doesn't seem to be alive either. A heal or [true] miracle spell can restore a target. Normal curative magic does not heal any damage to the glass figure, but lesser or greater repair does.

Note: This spell is modified from the Vitrification spell found in Arcana Evolved to suit the flavor of standard DnD games.

Dawn Dragon
Mage Armor, Greater
Conjuration (Creation) [Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched

Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: No

This spell functions like mage armor, except that the armor bonus to AC is 5 plus 1 per four levels (max 5 +5).

the Jester

Just FYI, Sandstorm has a spell called (iirc) glass strike that turns someone to glass, and there's a greater mage armor in the Spell Compendium. ;)

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Here is a spell I developed for the newest run of GUCK, but since it isn't being put together, I thought I'd post it here.

----------------------

Reverse Gendered Clone
Necromancy
Level: Sor/Wiz 8
Components: V, S, M, F
Casting Time: 30 Minutes
Range: 0 ft.
Effect: One clone
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell creates an inert duplicate of the opposite gender of one creature. If the original individual is slain, its soul immediately transfers to the reverse gendered clone, creating a replacement (provided the soul is free and willing to return; see Bringing Back the Dead; PHB pg 171). The original’s physical remains, should they still exist, become inert and cannot thereafter be restored to life. If the original creature has reached the end of its natural life span (that is, it has died of natural causes), any cloning attempt fails.

To create the duplicate, you must have a piece of flesh (not hair, nails, scales, or the like) with a volume of at least 1 cubic inch that was taken from the original creature’s living body and part of the anatomy of the gender of the clone to be made. The piece of flesh and the piece of anatomy from the desired gender need not be fresh, but it must be kept from rotting. Once the spell is cast, the duplicate must be grown in a laboratory for 3d4 months.

When the clone is completed, the original’s soul enters it immediately, if that creature is already dead. The clone is remarkably physically identical to the original, so that the people that knew the original as the other gender automatically identify the reverse gendered clone as the original. The reverse gendered clone possesses the same personality and memories as the original. In other respects, treat the clone as if it were the original character raised from the dead, including the loss of one level or 2 points of Constitution (if the original was a 1st-level character). If this Constitution adjustment would give the clone a Constitution score of 0, the spell fails. If the original creature has lost levels since the flesh sample was taken and died at a lower level than the clone would otherwise be, the clone is one level below the level at which the original died.

The spell only creates a reverse gendered clone of the original's body and mind, not its equipment.

The reverse gendered clone can be grown while the original still lives, or when the original soul is unavailable, but the resulting body is merely a soulless bit of inert flesh, which rots if not preserved.

Material Component: The piece of flesh, a part of the opposite gender’s anatomy and various laboratory supplies (cost 2,000 gp).

Focus: Special laboratory equipment (cost 1,000 gp).

Dawn Dragon
Electrify Instruments
Conjuration [Creation]
Level: Brd 0, Clr 0, Wiz/Sor 0 (Mage 1 for D20 Modern)
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft + 5 ft./2 levels)
Area: Musical instruments in a 20 ft. radius spread.
Duration: 10 minutes/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

When cast, this spell empowers all musical intruments in the affected area to sound like their modern day electrical counterpart, if applicable.

Focus: A golden miniature musical insrument (worth at least 100 gp)

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Cure Wounds
Conjuration (Healing) [Scalable]
Level: Brd 1, Clr 1, Drd 1, Pal 1, Rgr 1
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature Touched
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will half (harmless)
Spell Resistance:

When laying your hands on a living creature, you channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage equal to the cure wounds level.

Since undead are powered by negative enrgy, this spell deals damage to them, instead of curing their wounds. An undead creature can apply spell resistance, and can attempt a Will save to take half damage.

-----------------
For example if Jozan were to cast Cure Wounds as a 5th level spell, he would cure 5d8 points of damage. If he needed to cast it again, but cast it as an 8th level spell, he would cure 8d8 points of damage.

The idea of scalable spells first appeared in the Kingdoms of Kalamar Player's Guide.

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Cure Wounds, Mass
Conjuration (Healing) [Scalable]
Level: Brd 5, Clr 5, Drd 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft + 5ft./2levels)
Target: Creature Touched
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will half (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) or Yes; see text

You channel positive energy that cures 1d8 points of damage equal to the mass cure wounds level minus four in each selected creature.

Like cure wounds, mass cure wounds deals damage to undead in its area rather than curing them. Each affected undead may attempt a Will save for half damage.

-----------------
For example if Jozan were to cast Cure Wounds its base level (5th), he would cure 1d8 points of damage in each selected creature. If he needed to cast it again, but cast it as an 9th level spell, he would cure 5d8 points of damage in each selected creature.

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Skill Focus
Transmutation [Scalable]
Level: Brd 1, Clr 1, Drd 1, Pal 1, Rgr 1, Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: Swift Action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature Touched
Duration: 1 round/caster levels + 1 round
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)

When you cast this spell, choose a specific skill you wish to grant a bonus to. The target gains a competence bonus to said skill equal to twice the spells level +2 if the target has the skill as a class skill. If the target treats the skill as a cross class skill, the competence bonus is equal to the spell’s level +1. Unless the target is trained in the skill, the spell is wasted. The caster is only allowed to use one focus per casting of this spell.

Example 1
Mialee casts Skill Focus (Open Locks) on Lidda as a 4th level spell as a 7th level Wizard. Being that open locks is a class skill for Lidda and because Lidda has invested ranks in the skill and is therefore trained in it, she gains a +10 competence bonus to open locks for 8 rounds.

Example 2
Hennet casts Skill Focus (Escape Artist) on Tordek as a 6th level spell as a 12th level sorcerer. Being that escape artist is a cross class skill, and that it can be used untrained, Tordek gains +7 bonus to escape artist checks for 12 rounds.

Focus: A small token to represent the skill granting the bonus to. For example, a spider for climb checks, a tome for Knowledge checks, flippers for swim checks, a key for open locks, etc. The DM is free to come up with a list of what tokens are acceptable for certain skills, or can leave the decision up to player and can deny it if she doesn’t think the focus isn’t appropriate for the skill. The focus must have a value equal to 100 times the spell level used in gp.

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Stomach of Holding
Transmutation
Level: Clr 3, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Touch
Target: Creature Touched
Duration: 6 days
Saving Throw: Fort negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

The target can hide inorganic items in their stomach, as if it were a Bag of Holding Type I. The target can retrieve items by regurgitating them. If by the time the spell expires, all items have not been retrieved, the target takes 5D6 points of internal injury as the items force their way up and out all at once.

Anything organic the beneficiary tries to store takes acidic damage (1D6/round) as the stomach tries to digest it. Creatures can hack at the stomach lining to try to escape, needing to inflict three points of damage to do so. Immediately after, the beneficiary must make a DC 25 Fort save or take one point of temporary Constitution damage. Another one point of damage is necessary to break through the skin for the creature to escape.

Material Component: An empty sack

It doesn't really matter, but scalable spells have been around at least since RuneQuest II, circa 1978 - well before d20 even existed. Outside of that trivia, well - there's no reason why Flesh to Stone shouldn't turn targets into particular types of common stone (sandstone, granite, quartz, fused quartz/glass, etc) if you want it too. I've always figured that special effects were more or less up to the caster.

Similarily, if someone wants to change gender, Alter Self will do it - so having a sex change as a component of far more powerful spells probably falls under special effects as well.

Cure Wounds drastically powers up the bards, favored souls and similar spontaneous casters; bards didn't have access to more powerful healing magic before at all and favored souls would have had to use up several spell slots to get that flexibility. It would seem to undercut the cleric. Skill focus and Stomach of Holding we already hit on another thread.

The Practical Enchanter includes some Force Armor and Force shield templates, if you want a full set they might come in useful.

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Unbridled Lust
Enchantment (Compulsion)
Level: Clr 9, Drd 9, Img 9, Sor/Wiz 9
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: 1 hour (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell fills its targets with such an overwhelming desire to copulate with the spellcaster that all the moral boundaries the target may have cease to exist for the duration of the spell.

The target will do everything it can possibly do to entice the caster to have sex with them. The target will do everything it can to keep the spellcaster sexually happy and aroused.

The target will not stop pleasing the spellcaster until the duration of the spell is over.

Focus: An article of clothing that must have belonged to the target for at least a year.

I think the level on that is a bit inflated, there's already one like that in the GUCK with a longer duration at level 5.

If you need a ninth-level spell, and a hard-to-get material component for this, something is really, really, wrong.

Just being a moderately-wealthy basketball player, a minor rock musician, or a fast-talking L1 teenager normally suffices to get plenty of sex. Practically everyone likes it, since those who don't don't leave descendents.

Being a level 17+ spellcaster (and thus being vastly rich and powerful by normal standards), having professional-level suaveness (translating to diplomacy at +5 or better), and getting a charisma enhancing spell or item, should be more than enough even without falling back on Charm Person, much less on Dominate or similar effects.

Okay, thing is, the spell removes all moral boundaries. For example, if the caster wanted to, he could cast this spell on his sister. Sister, being mentally aghast at the concept of such, would need need to be under the spell to go through with it.

So, what changes should I make to reflect this?

Change the name of the spell to Power Word: Rape. That's essentially what it is.
