Fuma Shuriken

I think the size might be on the large side. If the item were three feet in diameter and a quarter inch thick (36" dia x 1/4" thick) and made of iron (450 lbs per cf for cast iron, 485 lbs per cf for wrought iron) it would weigh something like 70 pounds. I think the 1d8 damage is just fine though. You need to reduce the size to around 10" - 12" in diameter and about 1/8" thick. Plenty large and heavy enough to do some serious damage. I'm not sure if I'd make in an Exotic weapon. Your design, your call. I had something like this back in the 1E days. I haven't a clue what I used for stats though...

Though it would be really heavy I think my player wouldn't mind because other than his clothes and some potions, this is all he will be cariying.

I understand that within the game rules this is up to the GM.

But it fails my "reality" test. When it comes to weapons I ask, "Was something like this ever used in real life?" If the answer is No, I don't allow it. And an item that weighed this much and is a THROWING weapon wouldn't make it into my campaign. I wouldn't allow someone to use a 70 pound shield. Let alone a 70 pound shuriken.

Making it 12" dia x 1/8" thick would put it around three pounds. That is a lot of metal. Thrown with some force and you could easily penetrate most shields and many types of armour. In the real world most full sized swords didn't weigh three pounds. Heck, most two-handed swords were around six pounds. This would be a deadly weapon at three pounds. Not to mention that you could carry more than one... :)

Actually I agree on the weight, but not for realism (what fun is that :) ). You will definitely want to carry several of these things, and at 3 feet across that's just not practical.

If you do only want to carry one (maybe it's got a Returning enhancement) you can always have the center part made of something other than iron to keep the weight down. Maybe wood with iron blades or something.

Or you can just say "made with ancient Eastern forging secrets...really light!" :)
