[FUN] Silly Character Concepts

Thanee

First Post
If you know HERO, there was a section about how not to make characters...

It featured some really crazy concepts, like the Landlord, who had so many followers, that there was no being left to be his enemy, or the Planetman, who could shrink planets down to baseball size and throw them at his enemies, with the size reduction instanteneously being reverted, while one of his DNPCs (dependant NPC - like the aunt of Peter Parker - that's a disadvantage that gives you extra character points) teleported him into safety. IIRC, it also listed the damage for an inflating planet. ;)

When reading through the M&M rules, I was reminded to that, when looking through the Feat section.

Me and my brothers: For a mere 2 PP you can aquire a Sidekick, who is only one level beneath your own ability (i.e. PL 9, if you are PL 10), you can select that feat multiple times. It would be fairly easy to get a couple dozen sidekicks (i.e. 50) and have a whole army of superhumans following you around. :p

Do you have any character concepts, which are similarily silly (and, of course, wouldn't be used in play)?

Post them here! :D

had an idea for a HERO character a while back called "The Reminder."

his only power was Photographic Memory, usable only by others, area effect radius around him, always on.

basically, wherever he went, the people around him would suddenly remember things they had previously forgotten. :)

I thought it was a silly concept when I came up with it, but it worked out pretty well in play:)

Boogeyman

Teleportation (Flawed to "only when in a closet/Under a bed")
Mind Control (Flawed to "Fear" only, with Triggered "Paralyzation" extra)
Natural weapon (Claws & Fangs)

Back in college, we played a few oddball Champions campaigns and there were a couple of standout character concepts that were kind of weird, but definitely got play time (and would easily translate into MnM).

Vanguard of the Proletariat
A Soviet super soldier much like Capt. America. He had a hammer and sickle on his chest and a portrait of Lenin on his shield. He was originally for a Golden Age campaign but got transported to the future and had a hard time adjusting to modern life without a revolutionary proletariat.

Phallus
He had a public ID as a celebrity sex therapist like Dr. Ruth. But he was secretly repressed. He wore a latex/rubber suit and had Growth as his primary power. Unfortunately, that growth power was unreliable, especially when around attractive women...

The comic 'Common Grounds' has some great characters that could border on the silly. My two favorites:

The European aristocrat villain with Earth Control: The Marquise de Sod
The orthodox Jew whose touch can disintergrate any form of matter: The Acidic Jew.

We don't know anything about the Marquise but there is an entire story about The Acidic Jew (hint: never let the newspapers name your character) that's quite touching.

Back in high school, I played a lot of Marvel Super Heros, and we came up with some pretty lame characters from time to time. One that I played for a while, despite how useless he was, was called Grafitti.

Dressed in a silver grey outfit that looked like the side of a NYC Subway train from the late 70s, Grafitti's power was Color Change. The problem was, he could only change the colors of things he touched with the tips of his fingers, and only the exact places that he touched. Good for drawing when you don't have a pencil or marker, but not very good when someone is shooting at you from 100 yards with a laser. He wasn't a bad brawler, but nothing out of the ordinary for a normal guy. His signature move, if you could call it that, was to poke someone in the eyes Three Stooges style, and change the color of their eye lens so they couldn't see. Not that he succeeded in connecting very often...

"Major Woody!" :D

But seriously (?), there were a whole bunch of useless heroes in the Tick, The Legion of Substitute Heroes, and Cerebus the Ardvark (although they were all alternate identities of 2 particular characters)- like "The Envelope" and "Moon Roach."

Back to characters from games, though. One I remember from a particular HERO campaign: "Mr. Personality" Essentially, almost all of his build points were dumped into comeliness and presence as well as a couple of minor powers. Essentially, he charmed people into doing what he wanted them to do, just by asking. Of course, he was taken down by a sniper.

The movie Mystery Men features a lot of really silly concepts as well. :D
